Proceeds of Crime

A blend of 'The Warriors' and 'From Dusk Til Dawn', 'Proceeds' is an all-female badass crime-horror caper with a bizarre dark comedy slant.

Styled in aesthetics from the Berlin techno underground, this powerful female gang rules the night. Their mission is to cut the hair off beautiful women and sell it on the black market but they soon find out they aren't the only predators lurking the streets after dark.

Inspired partly by the 'Pirahna' hair attacks in Venezuela.

SCOTLAND in motion

Experience a beautiful timelapse journey through the amazing landscapes of Scotland.

In this film about the Scottish Highlands you will experience places like Glencoe, The Storr, Quiraing, Fairy Pools and many other places on the Isle of Skye.

The shots are made in May 2019 where I had the pleasure to travel around the Scottish Highlands for two weeks. I had the pleasure to experience the spectacular Isle of Skye with a sunrise at the Storr, a long hike and lot of mist at the Quiraing and the beautiful Fairy Pools. In Glencoe I experienced the lakes Glencoe Lochan and Lochan Urr, Glen Etive with amazing still water, had an interesting and demanding climb to the top of Ben Nevis which is the highest mountain in UK and finally made a timelapse at the Glenfinnan Viaduct with the steam train known from Harry Potter.

No, I Don't Want to Dance!

These are dark times. The growing amount of political, social and environmental issues fill the agendas of millions of concerned people around the world. You may think that in our modern and thorough times, every potential hazard has been identified. You would be wrong. There is a critical issue that, as yet, nobody has taken into consideration: how dangerous dance can be.
We’re living in a world where dance is everywhere and, believe it or not, your kids will one day be asked to dance. Blindly following other people’s “movements” may lead to catastrophic consequences.
This short film aims to raise awareness of how deadly dangerous dance can be.
So hopefully, one day, when someone asks you, you will be able to reply: "No, I don't want to dance!”

Stronger together, Fighting Mental Illness - TSB Stories: Luke, Oona & Phil Ep.12

"Each day when I cut hair on the streets I meet amazing people with amazing stories. Stories that most people never get to see or hear. Stories that can warm my heart, and break it at the same time.

When I sat down with Luke, Oona and Paul separately, they all shared their very personal mental health journey, their struggles, and what has helped them along the way to ease their suffering. These stories of depression, and the different forms it can take, can often feel quite confronting or difficult to hear. However, it can also be a very important part of our growth, both on a personal level and as a community. I am humbled and honoured to be able to share their journey thus far, to help us all understand the struggles others might be going through, or even what you yourself might be struggling with. You are not alone, and together we can be there to support each other.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out."
- Nasir, The Streets Barber

*Servants Community Housing provides affordable accommodation and safe housing for those on low incomes , many of whom suffer from long-term mental illnesses. They are passionate about providing respect, dignity and hope for their residents. I was fortunate enough to spend a few days cutting hair and connecting with some of their residents. Sendino: Exchange

Set against the concrete backstreets of New York City, two teenagers working in a hot dog truck share their first sexual encounter by sensually passing a raw egg yolk back and forth between their mouths. As they claw at each other’s bodies in increasing intimacy the yolk eventually bursts into a cascade of erotic pleasure.

In Exchange innovative German director and writer Francisco Sendino presents this contemporary remake of an iconic erotic scene from Tampopo, a 1980s Japanese “noodle western” directed by Juzo Itami.

“I have always been fascinated by Itami’s blunt weirdness,” says Sendino. “This scene in the original Japanese film is a moment of intense sexuality, so I wanted to give it a personal touch. The egg yolk's fragility represents the insecurity of these two teenagers and their first sexual experience. It symbolizes the source of life, fertility, and fragility.”

In Residence: Pierre Yovanovitch - NOWNESS

Cloistered in ninety acres of Provençal woodland and only accessible by a two-mile stretch of country road, the Château de Fabrègues is home to French interior and furniture designer Pierre Yovanovitch.

The Paris-based aesthete made a name for himself in the fashion industry after a successful run as the menswear designer for Pierre Cardin. In 2001 Yovanovitch left the fashion house to open his own interior atelier, which has welcomed high-profile commercial projects from Christian Louboutin, Kering, and boutique hotel and retail units across the world.

Yovanovitch’s home is a vision of eclectic minimalism inspired by contemporary art, vintage design, architecture, and operatic staging. One of the most recent additions to his turreted seventeenth-century chateau is a chapel that has been decorated with carnivalesque frescos by painter Claire Tabouret, a frequent artistic collaborator of the designer.

Each room in the restored farmhouse contains a mixture of ornate gypsum fireplaces, Mohair rugs, rough-hewn oak furniture and basilica-inspired coffered ceilings. The designer, who has described his personal style as “monk-like but comfortable”, tempers the building’s luxury with a Scandinavian and American aesthetic that unwinds the body and mind.

This fall, Pierre Yovanovitch will publish his first book, Pierre Yovanovitch: Interior Architecture. This release will be the most complete public showcasing of his work to date.

Sound & Vision: School of Noise - NOWNESS

Something different is happening in music class today. There are no teachers or conventional instruments in sight. Instead, kids create riotous soundscapes on analog synthesizers, vinyl players and noise generators. In the spirit of Neil Armstrong's iconic radio transmission from the moon—a recording that features in this film—the children are exploring uncharted possibilities in sound.

These sonic voyagers are part of the School of Noise, a touring experimental sound workshop based in London, where young people can learn about music on rare instruments. Former Pulp bassist Steve Mackey and ex-The Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart have come together under the creative moniker Call This Number, recording the children’s genre-defying session.

“The creative process that flows from idea to action is instantaneous for children,” says Hart. “It’s not as direct or uninhibited for adults.”

“The unique aspect of School of Noise is that children are encouraged to experiment with music tools from an early age,” says Makey. “Douglas and I were both in bands, but I don’t think either of us saw a synth or drum machine until our late teens.”

School of Noise was recorded on multiple 1970s Sony Portapaks—one of the first generations of consumer video recording equipment. The format of the film is an aesthetic Call This Number developed in their London garage, where analog images and sound are mixed live, and they complete their filming by the end of an artist’s performance.

“Moving pictures and sound have gone hand-in-hand since the Lumière brothers filmed workers leaving a factory in 1895,” says Hart. “The relationship between film and music, in particular, is indivisible.”

Mackey says, “Some people write, some draw, but I guess music is the language that we’re both attracted to.”

The Last Line

'The Last Line' follows an actress as she enters an audition where she is forced to face a harsh reality of the industry. She starts out delivering a confident performance, only to be gradually beaten down, arriving at a place vulnerable to emotional manipulation that takes place at the hand of the director, all in the name of ‘art’. She is confronted by the questions of what is indispensable for art and an excellent performance, where the line is drawn between real life and performance and ultimately how much of herself she is willing to sacrifice in the pursuit of her dream.

ORBEM TERRÆ - Earth rotation astro time-lapse compilation 4K

Down is up and up is down. Or is it the other way around? Earth and a fortiori the whole solar system, even our home galaxy- endlessly float into space as the universe expands. As the Earth rotates around the Sun and on itself, it gives the impression that the sky is actually moving for an observer on its surface. That’s probably why it took so long for humanity to accept that the Sun was at the center of the solar system and not the Earth!

All the modern films taken at night usually capture this celestial course from a fixed point of the Earth. Thus you will most likely watch the moon or the milky way make their way across the firmament. In the Northern Hemisphere, it seems to move from left to right, and the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere. Nonetheless have you ever seen a film where the night sky is fixed and the Earth moves instead? Well, now you have! That was the whole point of this short time-lapse film that I dubbed ‘Orbem Terræ’, or orbiting Earth in latin. The goal is to bring a whole new perspective on how we actually move against the background sky! In this manner, some of the clips give a very cool effect where you almost feel like you’re on the International Space Station lokking down at the Earth. This ‘floating’ effect is admittedly unsettling though, as if we will fall into the abyss of the universe. However only now can you appreciate the true movement of rotation of our planet in the solar system. Some of the clips are also tilted, reversed and rotated on purpose to accentuate the effect, so much that sometimes, you have no clue what is up and what is down! It’s especially true for the scenes featuring water reflection!

To achieve this particular effect, it actually not rocket science. There exist simple devices that, if set in the right way, can follow and track a particular point of the sky by compensation for the rotation of the Earth. By mountain your camera on top of those ‘tracker’, you can now have a fixed sky, a rotating Earth effect, and some advantages as the cherry on top: more details in the night sky objects!

This short film is actually a compilation of all the best tracked shots I have acquired during the past 4 years. After all my different movies, I've been asked a number of times to put together this compilation, so here you go! They were taken all over the globe from Europe to South America, Africa to North America. It features some of the most detailed astrophotography sequences on the market for this quality output, including some never-seen-before ones!

Manic Manila

Manila is the capital of the Philippines. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, as well as the most densely populated city proper in the world as of 2018 (Wikipedia).

Also Manila is a pretty crazy place. Could not decide if I love it or hate it while being there, but probably both :)
Either way, many travellers skip the city and head directly to one of the islands. However, I think that this is a mistake and its very worthwhile to give the city a shot for a few days and soak it in in all its manic craziness.

This film was shot during holy week, which may explain, why there is so little traffic for Manila.

Thomas Deininger. Trash Artist.

a gnarly bay mini project featuring Thomas Deininger

DP: Tyler Murgo + Jordan Ingram
AC/DIT/Audio: Jack Ieronimo
Edit: Jordan Ingram

.
Early in 2019, we were searching for stories about interesting people in our area so that we could create some client-free creative profiles in our down time. Thanks to the infinite scroll of twitter, we were turned on to the work of this amazing artist named Thomas Deininger. It was actually a random tweet from the actor that plays Boba Fett in the Star Wars prequels that claimed Tom was one of the most inspiring creators he had come across lately. We were intrigued by the amazing artwork in the low quality GIF that he posted, and then, following the internet rabbit hole, we realized that he was from RI. His studio was less than an hour away...like everything in Rhode Island is, so our producer Kyle King made contact. Tom welcomed us into his world and shared his perspectives on some big themes and how his anxieties and fears about human consumption and plastic waste create the foundation of his medium for artistic expression.
.
Enjoy.
