Street Art Rome

On my last trip to Italy i found out that Rome has besides its well known cultural heritage a really big street art scene.

Actually my first idea was making a documentary, but due the lack of time i came with the idea just to shoot as much as i can and play with hyperlapse and editing techniques which i always found really interesting, but never had the opportunity to try it myself.

Fortunately i found the amazing app called "Street Art Rome" which helped me to navigate through Rome to find all the beautiful pieces, even when it wasn't possible to capture all of them.

Most of the pieces are made in suburbs of Rome which you're normally not entering in your usual Rome trip.
To raise interest in these less known neighborhoods, the city invited local and international street art artists to make them look more friendly and interesting.

So if you are done with visiting the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain take a walk through the other quarters of rome. Don't miss Tor Pignatarra, Tor Sapienza, Ostiense, San Basilio, Garbatella, Quadraro, Tor Marancia, Pigneto, San Lorenzo

Brett Rheeder - This is Home

"My home has always been in Ontario. I wanted to tell the story of where I live and where I come from, my whole family lives within 50km of each other in southern Ontario. My cousins let me use their farm land to build the course. We hoped the dirt was going to be good, but as soon as we dug into the ground we knew it was gold and the best part is it’s only 4kms from my house. I know that Ontario is not ideal for mountain biking, but with a little work I feel it can be, and that’s what I wanted to show. For me, This is Home." - Brett Rheeder

Sougwen Chung, Drawing Operations (Collaboration), 2015

Drawing Operations
Collaboration
2015

Drawing Operations is an ongoing collaboration between an artist and a robotic arm. The project investigates ideas of automation, autonomy, and collaboration as an exercise in behavioral empathy.

Sougwen Chung and her Drawing Operations Unit: Generation 1, (D.O.U.G._1) explore mimicry and procedural mark-making as a simple drawing performance between a human and mechanical agent. Alongside developer Yotam Mann, the behavior of the robotic arm was designed to mimic the drawn gesture in real time through the use of a ceiling-mounted camera and computer vision. As D.O.U.G., the robotic arm, interprets the mark of the drawing collaborator, the human agent then responds in kind, resulting in a synchronous, interpretive performance.

Drawing Operations is the first stage of an ongoing study examining human and robotic interaction as an artistic collaboration. Further stages include will examine memory, autonomy, and agency.

"PomPom Mirror," 2015
928 faux fur pom poms, 464 motors, control electronics, xbox kinect motion sensor, mac-mini computer, custom Software, wooden armature
48 x 48 x 18 in / 121.9 x 121.9 x 45.7 cm
Edition of 6

Rozin’s anthropomorphic "PomPom Mirror" features a synchronized array of 928 spherical faux fur puffs. Organized into a three-dimensional grid of beige and black, the sculpture is controlled by hundreds of motors that build silhouettes of viewers using computer-vision. Along its surface, figures appear as fluffy animal-like representations within the picture plane, which is made permeable by a ‘push-pull’ forward and backward motion of meshed ‘pixels’. Ghostly traces fade and emerge, as the motorized composition hums in unified movement, seemingly alive and breathing as a body of its own.

From Timber To Tide

A new film in our maker series. Ben Harris is a traditional wooden boat builder based in Cornwall, UK.

This film documents Ben Harris’ love of wood work and boat building, how he acquired his skills, and how incredible it is to be able to take something that you’ve built with your own hands out onto the water and sail it across the sea.

Who is Ben Harris?

Ben has always loved wood. His mother said that his first word was ‘log’. He has been working with wood throughout the UK since the age of 15. First as an assistant to a cabinet maker, where he started by sharpening the tools and clearing up. He then developed his skills in furniture making and his passion for wood and forestry by working in broadleaf woodlands. Later he tuned his skills in bespoke oak-framed carpentry and went on to establish a sawmill and oak framing business in Scotland, sourcing timber from the local estates. In 2005 Ben moved to Cornwall to study boatbuilding. He has been building boats and sailing them ever since.

Shooting from timber to tide

We spent three days with Ben, staying with him in the idyllic handbuilt wooden cabin he lives in, in Constantine, Cornwall. When we arrived Wednesday, late afternoon, the plan was to make pumpkin soup and couldn’t believe our luck when we discovered the open fire cooking area in the garden. Within an hour after arriving we were already shooting some lovely material. The next day we covered the area around the house, the two workshops, the woods and recorded the voice-over. The real treat came on Friday morning when we took his self-built sailing yacht Alva out on Falmouth’s waters. First we covered the beautiful yacht from a motor boat with skipper Matthew Dale and dog Ruben, before we stepped on board ourselves and got close to the action. What a great experience.

Impressions of my 2 week trip in Myanmar... Wow! What an amazing country! Traveling to Myanmar was one of the most amazing countries I have been to. I would say, it was very "adventurous" :). It felt like the time stood still there. The Burmese people is my favourite memory of Myanmar. Always smiley, curious and very friendly. As a tourist, especially as a western one (I guess), you are a walking attraction. You constantly have to do photographs with huge families ;). Maybe Myanmar will be your next destination?

Cruising Tuscany and the Riviera

0:00 Intro – 2:06 The Italian Riviera – 4:17 Tuscany – 6:14 Outro

Europe consists of almost 50 countries and every one has its own culture, its own language, its own history, its own cusine, its own humor, and its own way of doing things... No wonder we’re a mess over here :)

However, that’s what makes Europe so extraordinary and so beautiful. Asking the question what’s my favourite place here, would not be fair, because there is so much to be seen. All I can say is that "Bella Italia" was, is, and will always be very close to my heart. And in my personal opinion, this country’s "filet mignon" is for sure the Italian Riviera and Tuscany ... and that’s where we went in the late summer of 2014. Press play and get some impressions… hope you like it.

LAiO =)

PHOTOTAXIS - PLEASE Fashion film & Music Video

A Look full of love and Beauty- The City of Rome

Directed, Filmed, Edited & colored by Kobie Flashman
Starring - Timor Cohen

While vacationing in the beautiful city of Rome (celebrating 7 years together), I took my Sony A7S camera out, and filmed my beautiful girlfriend. none of this was planned, and some of time she even got a bit frustrated with me looking through the lens instead of at the beauty of the city of Rome. but as in all relationships- compromise was the winner- and the camera was let out here and there throughout the vacation, and most of the time, we just got lost together in the beauty of this ancient and amazing city.
Once back home, I started randomly playing with the footage, and since I wasn't planning on using the sound recorded anyway , I randomly listened to some music- the song "PLEASE" by the amazing band PHOTOTAXIS (a trip-hop/rock/soul group I work with- creating there visual world) came up on the shuffle , and seemed to sync up perfectly with the images- lucky mistake .
All of the above came together to bring this beautiful Music Video to life
Enjoy
