A dark and comical deconstruction of our society based on an old Czech folktale, Little Otik is a story of a young couple desperate to have a baby. After a visit to a doctor that deems the classic methods of procreation impossible, the despairing protagonists switch focus to a child-resembling tree stump found in the garden. The monstrosity comes to life and its insatiable appetite gradually increases to the point where porridge and breast milk just won't do...

Ten Days: A Modern Success Story

In the fall of 2015, while mindlessly thumbing through my Instagram feed, I stumbled across three images Michael Stevenson posted to his account. It was three white boxes, with the caption, "STARTING. FROM. SCRATCH."

I was intrigued, and after meeting up to chat about what prompted those posts, we embarked on a journey of trying to both understand and maybe even capture the moment. What follows is a film that has continued to morph and grow as realities changed before our very eyes. The film we set out to make is very different than the film you see here.

I'm incredibly grateful to Mike, for allowing me to poke around a very personal and meaningful moment in his life, and for his unflinching honesty about something we don't usually talk about in terms other than heroic.

Also - thanks to Jared Hogan, whose "Films About Numbers" project was the intended point of distribution. But the story had other plans and timelines.

For The Sky

Not many people have heard of Daniel Fleury. He isn’t really part of a riding scene and he doesn’t seem overly concerned with upping his Instagram rep. If you expected his feed to be a run of extreme bike shots, you’d be surprised to find a view on the world based on natural beauty with a series of images that present a creative view on everyday things like foliage, ocean and…sky.

Daniel grew up in circumstances more likely to guide him into team sports than inspire an endeavor in bikes, but something drew him into the woods where he spent the better part of two years hand building a massive cluster of jumps known as ‘Laguna’. A line with features that reach for the tree tops and a coastal view that delivers breathtaking sunsets daily.

Rise – The Prediction of Everything 4K

There are approximately one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe. Planet Earth is billions of years old. Earth is the only astronomical object known to harbor life as we know it. Our solar system is vast and complex. The planets are in a delicate balance, and the chaos that has emerged from the Big Bang has arrived at a place of stability.

Every sunrise and sunset. Every moonrise and moonset. The rise and trajectory of the Milky Way. The fall and direction of shadows as the moon sets and the Milky Way rises. We can predict astronomical events with absolute accuracy from any place on Earth.

This short movie presents the predictability of our planetary system. Catch the first sun rays brushing over Half Dome in Yosemite. Watch the Moon setting to the West while the Milky Way is rising to the South East over Arizona. Follow the Milky Way spanning across the night sky, giving us just a glimpse of what else may be out there. Observe as the shadows are getting longer, and the Milky Way is rising from behind the moonlit landscape. Catch the Supermoon rising over Rodgers Peak and Half Dome.

Our solar system keeps a predictable pace even when events on the human scale feel out of balance at times. Earth's orbit has been stable for billions of years. Without stability, there is no life on Earth. Without stability, we would not exist. To create life, we need predictability.

There is a calmness that comes from connecting with nature. It allows us to reflect on the significance of life.

Steven Wilson - Routine (Hand. Cannot. Erase.)

The new album from Steven Wilson “4 ½” is OUT NOW, so titled because it forms an interim release between Steven’s recently released fourth album Hand. Cannot. Erase. and the next studio album.

CD: http://ift.tt/1RrI8cs
Vinyl: http://ift.tt/1TEg7xs
Blu-Ray: http://ift.tt/1RrI8cu
Digital: http://ift.tt/1TEg6JT

Steven Wilson has launched the stunning animated video for ‘Routine’. The hugely emotive track featuring a beautiful guest vocal performance by Ninet Tayeb is taken from his latest album Hand. Cannot. Erase.
Steven Wilson “Amongst the hundreds of songs I have written over the years Routine has a very special place. It’s a deeply sad story of loss and denial, but at its conclusion the clouds lift and there is acceptance at least. Having worked with her on 3 previous videos, I knew as soon as I wrote it that it was perfect for Jess to do something amazing with. Even then nothing prepared me for the organic beauty and power of the film she made, a painstaking labour of love that took her months to produce. When we play the song live I look out into the audience and see people swept away with emotion at the combination of music and animation. To find poetry and beauty in sadness is a wonderful thing I think.”

Director Jess Cope of Owlhouse Studios (OwlHouseStudios.com) talks about working with Steven Wilson and the creation of the ‘Routine’ video “Routine is the forth film that Owl House Studio has made in collaboration with Steven Wilson and the biggest one yet. The story centres on a woman dealing with the tragic loss of her family and the routine she creates for herself to try and cope. The themes in Steven’s music are often quite morbid and macabre and when we heard Routine for the first time, Tom Kaye (Writer/Producer) and I knew the story had to be really strong, to do justice to the music.

Working with Steven is always a fantastic experience for us creatively. In the early stages, Steven often has a strong concept in mind for a song or album, but allows us the creative freedom to add our own style and ideas to it.

Our use of traditional animation and the painstaking efforts of the whole Owl House Studios team, have resulted in a film with a level of beauty and detail not previously achieved by the studio – at the same time it is simple enough that the music always drives the story.

We’re so pleased with the look of the puppet and sets, and especially the level of detail Alison Cross (Art Director/Prop Maker) managed to get into the props. This project also saw us working with Adam Oehlers (Concept Artist) for the first time and he was able to capture the tone from our script so perfectly. Working with such a diverse team and amazingly talented animators, we were able to bring this woman’s world to life.

I’m proud of all the films we’ve made with Steven Wilson, but I’m especially fond of ‘Routine’. The response we’ve received has been phenomenal. It’s incredibly humbling to see that something we’ve helped create has touched so many people and reduced a good number of them to tears… It’s an extraordinary and ironic satisfaction!

Hand. Cannot. Erase. the fourth solo album from the four-time Grammy nominee, multi-instrumentalist and producer has received universal praise from the media and fans alike rewarding Steven Wilson his highest chart positions worldwide including UK #13 ,Germany # 3, Netherlands #2, USA – #39 Billboard Top 200, Canada #24 & Finland #4 national album charts. Steven Wilson was, recently, awarded an unprecedented 3 PROG Magazine Awards for Hand. Cannot. Erase. including Best Album, Commercial Breakthrough, and Boxset Design alongside a nomination for Classic Rock Magazine’s Album Of The Year.

With sold out shows around the world including his 2 recent performances at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall Steven Wilson will be continuing to tour Hand. Cannot. Erase. starting in Germany on January 12th, the 2016 European tour takes Steven to Belgium, Holland, UK, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Hungary, Italy and Greece. The Last Colonizer | DJI World

We recently traveled three days on horseback through Patagonia to tell the story of Gaucho Heraldo Riel for DJI World.

To be a gaucho means to be honest and kind to all living creatures. Now in his seventies, Heraldo Riel became a gaucho at the age of nine just like his father before him, and has stayed true to the spirit of his profession while in the midst of a rapidly changing world. This is a story about being connected to nature and oneself, set in the stunning landscape of Patagonia, Chile, made even more intensely beautiful through the meditation that solitude brings.

Go behind the scenes with DJI and Foster Visuals as they adventure three days to get to Mr. Riel: vimeo.com/172140198/

Ingress – Beginning of a Transit

Manifestation of a transformational year.

2014 has been a transformational year. The birth of our son, relocation to a new city, closure of one startup adventure, the beginning of another startup journey and the launch of various big design projects.

Accidents, Blunders and Calamities

A father possum reads his kids a story that’s an alphabet of the most dangerous animal of all – HUMANS!

Inspired by the Edward Gorey classic, this black-comedy for kids and parents alike is a hilarious and brutal alphabet of death and mayhem exacted upon animals by ignorant humans. 30 CGI animals were meticulously crafted and killed by a team of 44 students at Media Design School.

My Brother

“My Brother” is a personal tribute to the silent contributions of migrant workers globally. I grew up in the island city-state of Singapore, where encounters with migrants of countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and the Philippines are part of everyday living. Many of them take on jobs that are considered by the larger public to be menial in nature. Sometimes, the differences in our cultures and socioeconomic statuses cause social friction. When we allow this to be left unchecked, it can evolve into darker displays of xenophobic behavior.

But the inability to see past differences is not just a local issue; it is an increasingly global one. From where I am now in the United States, I am beginning to see how irresponsible political rhetoric, among other factors, influences previously big-hearted populations, populations which embraced – indeed championed – diversity.
My response to this wave of sentiments is inspired by a quote I came across recently, attributed to the French composer Claude Debussy: music is the silence between the notes. The project aims to recognize the silent migrant workers’ contributions to our communities and celebrate their music between our notes.

“My Brother” is thus a metaphor for the thousands of underappreciated migrant workers we come across during our daily commute. I believe that bridges are built on bricks of commonalities and so the focus of this project is on the spaces of our shared humanity – school, families and personal dreams.

After viewing the video, it is my personal hope that you make my brother, your brother too.

Valentina

In an effort to see more and shoot more, I went on an unplanned trip to Barcelona with the intention of making a short documentary that captured the vibe of the city. I didn't know who I was going to end up meeting or what I was going to shoot.

Through a friend living there, I was put in touch with Gianmarco. I went to meet him outside MACBA and we spent a day and a half shooting together. He showed me around Barcelona, introduced me to his friends and gave me a feel for the place.

Before I jumped on my plane home, we sat under a bridge and chatted some shit. He told me about Valentina.

Ephemeral

Web: EvosiaStudios.com

Ephemeral is a film about the ever-changing state of nature. As humans, we expect everything to be the same -- day in and day out. But if we look to nature, we see that nothing lasts forever. The universe is in a constant state of change.

Shot over 12 months, the film covers Iceland in its various states of change. From the long days of summer to the long nights of winter, the stunning colors of the midnight sun to the equally breathtaking northern lights, the green and lush summer to the snow-covered winter, Iceland is a great example of extreme opposites and drastic change when nature's elements come together in all of its beauty, growth and destruction.

Music is the song "Adventure" by Justin R Durban - justindurban.com

cycles

A young cyclist Sam tries hard to make peace with his younger brother Alex who suffers from an unknown illness.

This is my last film at CalArts!
Growing up with an older sister with pretty severe OCD, I faced difficulties when it came to hanging out with friends, and focusing on my dreams. My whole family was influenced by her illness and it was something that was very hard to discuss about. I always had mixed feelings about my sister because I understood that she was also struggling with her problems, but at the same time I just felt so unfair how everything had to revolve around her.

It's a story I always wanted to tell. I had a good experience making it!

Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made

In theaters & On Demand worldwide 6/17!

After Steven Spielberg's classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film. They finished every scene...except one; the film's explosive airplane set piece.

Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece. Featuring interviews with John Rhys Davies, Eli Roth and more, RAIDERS!: THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE is just that: the story of this long-gestating project’s culmination, chronicling the friends' dedication to their artistic vision—mixed in with some movie magic—to create a personal, epic love letter to a true modern classic.
