Lands of the Maya - Guatemala and Mexico
Two years ago I started filmmaking. I bought a GoPro, went traveling in South America and made a video of it. From that moment my passion for filmmaking started and marked the start for my video business. I actively started filmmaking and bought my first camera: Panasonic GH5!
Now, two years later, I am proud to present my new video. LANDS OF THE MAYA is the result of two years of hard work on my camera, editing, colour grading and sound design skills. This video captures a 4 week journey trough Guatemala, Mexico and Belize. In short: Vulcanoes, whale sharks, Maya temples, waterfalls, culture and food!

YESH | VII
It is a rare feat for an unknown artist to emerge onto the scene with a work of such originality and depth. With “VII”, YESH grapples with complex topics in a way we’ve never seen before.
This debut single doesn’t force YESH’ truth on us, but muses on universal themes in a way that is wide open to the audience’s interpretation yet simultaneously deeply personal to the artist. YESH’ unique voice comes through both pure and heavily pitched, while encircled by spacy electronica, dark beats and a lonely electric guitar.
She continues these motives in the music video for “VII”, one that reorders its scenes with every viewing when watched on thisisYESH.com
Her exploration on the unreliant, random nature of memories is pushed to its extreme through 6,277,020,800 possible versions (13 scenes that reorder, creating 13 factorial versions).
As the timing of the cuts from scene to scene remain in place, serendipity allows viewers to find new meaning within the breath taking imagery. With this experience, YESH truly relinquishes control and offers a one-of-a-kind experience.

LEAVING PODGORICA // SHORT FILM
Leaving Podgorica breaks the stigma surrounding depression by drawing the viewer into a poetic cinematographic experience that shows us this mental condition from another perspective. Honest, poetic imagery in combination with an engaging voice over creates an honest and beautiful dream- like portrait of a man who dares to reach out for help.
The story itself is about Davor, a lone wolf, trapped in the prison of his own thoughts. Hope arises when the beautiful Ana comes along.

ZOE
Zoe is a hitwoman who falls in love with standup comedy. In this short film, she's in the middle of a job and has to confront her partner about her plan to use standup as a way in. He proves to be her toughest audience yet.
Incidentally, there's a terrific feature script written for this, and then Barry came out, and this incredibly novel idea suddenly became, "Oh, like that HBO show?" It's still a great script, so let me know if you'd like to give me a couple million to shoot it.

"Morning"—Shot on the Nikon Z7 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera with S Lenses
It’s a new century for Nikon imaging, and I’m super honored to be a part of it. The 101-year-old company has announced what I consider to be one of the most remarkable imaging devices on the planet, the Nikon Z7. Along with its companion, the Nikon Z6, these cameras mark Nikon’s debut in the world of full-frame mirrorless cameras.
I was given wide latitude with the opportunity to create a short film using the new Nikon Z7, and the result is a film I’m calling “Morning.”
The concept of this film was born out of the idea that so many of us really try to make our mornings count. Whether we’re writers or artists using those early hours to tap into our creativity, or we’re parents or spouses who are trying to make the first moments of our day really count, mornings are a sacred time of day.
Many of us use those first hours of the day to go for a ski tour, bouldering, hit the gym, do yoga, or meditate. For me, when I’m lucky and not on a deadline, I like to take my mountain bike out for a ride on the trails surrounding Lake Tahoe.
I thought that shooting a mountain-biking film in my backyard would be the ideal scenario. And it was fitting because during the short window of time I was given to create this film, mornings ended up being the only time of day I actually had to shoot!
We worked with Kyle Smaine, an incredibly local athlete who is a world-class freeskier who can also ride a mountain bike like no one else.
We shot Kyle tearing across a handful of my favorite trails and sections of granite in the Lake Tahoe basin.
The Big Picture
This isn’t just a new camera with a new mount that’s mirrorless and shoots silent. It’s a new and better tool in an ecosystem that I’m already using and love.
The idea that I can continue to use all my favorite Nikkor lenses, but shoot higher-quality video with my eye pressed to the electronic viewfinder, take advantage of the autofocus capabilities, and produce higher-quality images all in a smaller form factor means that I might just be one of the most excited guys around after today’s big announcement.
Thanks and More Soon…
Thank you, first and foremost, to Nikon for the opportunity to represent your company as an Ambassador and to be given the opportunity to flex my creativity using the best tools on the planet.

GALAXIES VOL. III : Voyage to the core - 4K
There’s something fascinating about our own home galaxy. Even if we still cannot look at it from above and gaze at the full span of its arms, the sideway view offers a quite a showdown. To me the central part of the milky way is the most spectacular sight of the night sky. It’s something you can clearly see with the naked eye when you are away from city lights. It’s a sight that really brings your down to Earth and lets you wonder at how small we are, while comforting you in the thought that you are part of this Earth and the Universe. I could gaze for hours at the central bulge and just contemplate its compelling beauty from where it rises till where it sets. From a photographic and scientific point of view, this part of the milky way is so interesting to capture and study because if our solar system is located in its suburbs, the downtown district of our home galaxy harbors billions upon billions of stars. They are so concentrated that the total light coming from them can be seen millions of light years away and really creates this halo of light visible when you take a picture of it, much like a fire blazing. However a thick blanket of dark hydrogen clouds shroud and block the complete view. You can even see these fine dark lanes with the naked eye and they really participate in making the whole picture something from another world. Of all of them the Pipe and Dark Horse nebulae are descending down the core obscuring the upper part of the central bulge. In addition to this celestial show many emission nebulae- reliques of previously exploded stars, pepper the disc. Among them the bright and colorful Lagoon nebula, the pink and blue Trifid nebula, the red Cat Paw, War and Peace and Prawn nebulae around Scorpius. Moreover many star clouds (like the Sagittarius star cloud) and other remarquable star clusters also participate in strewing this already full frame. Finally the closest stars (like Antares) and near planets visible during the time of shoot (Mars, Saturn, Jupiter) also give a sense of just how ridiculously big the distance between Earth the the core is.
Being fascinated by the core since I started astrophotography where it was barely visible (Denmark), I started looking for the best places in the northern hemisphere where I could get a clear view. The first time I really saw it was on the beautiful island of Tenerife 4 years ago and I sincerely will remember that experience for the rest of my life. Gazing upon the center of our galaxy in its full glory is something everyone ought to try. That’s why I decided to dedicate the third opus of my astrolapse series ‘Galaxies’ exclusively to the core, assembling my best clips to date and bringing them to the public, mainly to raise awareness and to get our night sky a bit more attention. I was appalled by just how many people have never seen the milky way so maybe by showing the true beauty of the universe I could contribute in my own limited way to bringing the real dark skies to the hectic and light polluted urban jungle.
The goal once again was to use the best techniques in astrophotography and time-lapse to exploit each frame to its maximum without compromising the quality. From planning, to traveling to remote locations, to shooting with some of the best astro-gear, and eventually finding a novel post-processing workflow, I was able to get some astounding and never-seen-before sequences of the core. Traveling to very elevated and dark places allowed me to get the best signal to noise ratio as well as the best ‘contrast effect’ in the halo created by the stars in the bulge. The array of extremely sharp and bright lenses I utilized permitted to decrease shutter speed and get less motion blur while getting extremely clean shots with little aberration. The use of an astro-modified camera (Canon 6D), light pollution filters (Pure night, Nachtlicht) and a star tracker (Vixen Polarie) enabled me to capture the H-alpha emission nebula better and generally get better contrast and light altogether (See the two previous episodes for explanation). To create motion I also used the Syrp Genie I 3-axis system and the Vixen Polarie. I really wasn’t interested in just getting the usual wide-angle shots of the milky way and tried a lot of different set-ups to get a new view on the core. I am really proud to say that thanks to a lot of relentless work to find the best astrolapse workflow, these sequences are some of the most defined available on the market with some of the best quality and true-to-life colors.

The Funambulist Dream - NOWNESS
Andrea—the subject of directorial duo Yuri Pirondi and Ines von Bonhorst's latest film—is a high-wire walker. Treading far above the ground through a mixture of caution and sure-footed confidence, the expert performer (who also holds a PhD in philosophy) struck the filmmakers not only because of his artistry, but for his patient and insightful view on life. The resulting film is not simply a dare-devil profile, but a symbolic and dreamlike journey where the wire represents the "timeline of our lives," as Pirondi and von Bonhorst explain. "As we walk forward along the wire, we encounter risks but we also face the infinite. "In Andrea's dream, reality and the subconscious merge through his stream of consciousness" as he makes his way along the wire. This also influenced the choice of location—Bagnoregio, where Italian auteur Federico Fellini filmed "his ciruqesque masterpiece La Strada, whose landscapes feel suspended and create a perfect environment for a dream-like imaginary."

Electro Nordic - Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen
When I embarked on my Baltic journey in March 2018, I wasn't so sure whether I should cross the Baltic to Helsinki and started my Nordic journey. Back then I did just experience the Beast from the East which put the temperature down to almost -20 in Poland and I didn't want to experience THAT again but when I was in Estonia, I decided to go for it and cross the sea arriving on the Sunny shore of Helsinki and then the trip kinda small balled from there with me going further to Stockholm and then Copenhagen. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go anywhere else in the country or to Norway or Iceland but I did the best I can and here is my experience in these 3 charming Nordic cities.
For this video, I wanted to use an electronic music that is similar to Royksopp, a Norwegian electronic duo that I love and I wanted the video to be fast-paced, upbeat and as electrifying as possible like my experience traveling in those cities hence where the name Electro Nordic came from. I hope I am able to convey that feeling to you through this video. :)
Enjoy!

"Set in rural Ireland, McKenna creates an eerily empty world for two young men bereft of purpose. They are brooding, bored, waiting for something to happen, and the pent-up energy of these two silent characters - played by the charismatic pair Shane Doonan and Shane O'Regen - will have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation." - PromoNews

Jul'Hoansi - NOWNESS
The San tribe are one of the oldest populations on earth. Their distinctive dialect, ‘jul’Hoansi’, is spoken by a people whose numbers are decreasing at a time when globalisation encroaches on age old traditions. Filmmaker Jacob John Harmer’s latest film, from producer Kay Czuba, delves deeply into the world of the San—spanning the entire lifetime of a tribesman from youth to old age. In a lyrical exploration of life, death, ancestors, and the San spirit world, Harmer's project focuses on a village elder's recollections of a life with the San and the warp and weft of their way of life. Chris Obi, of American Gods and Star Trek, narratives this powerfully evocative study of a way of life vastly different, and yet tellingly similar, to those in the West.
“To bring our film to life we made contact with the tribe using a local conservation program,” explains Harmer. “We spent eleven days camping near the tribe and their village, and were allowed access to a rare healing ceremony, conducted for a tribal elder—observing their tracking and stalking stills. We watched as they prepared poison, mixed in animal vertebrae, and prepared the heads of poison-tipped arrows.
"Throughout our time we were reminded not to venture into the bush alone. The nightly calls of wild dogs outside our camp, leopard footprints in the sand and an unwelcome visit from a black mamba kept us in check. This was reinforced when in an interview with a respected hunter our fixer chillingly translated; “If a leopard takes you we cannot do anything, they will break your neck, then take you into the depths of the savannah and hang you up a tree...”

Raw Materials: Cory Arcangel - NOWNESS
Amid so much anxiety surrounding the importance of creative authenticity, American artist Cory Arcangel takes a somewhat playful stance on the issue. Browsing the Brooklyn-based artist's website, you can read, in exacting detail, the instructions on how to reproduce his iconic Photoshop paintings for yourself. In a recent interview the tech-obsessed media artist claimed that "they're so easy," but this simplicity belies a complex and sophisticated attitude to digital media and the 'hackability' of tech—from obscure Nintendo games to advanced 3D software.
In the latest episode of Raw Materials—where we interview leading artists about the physical objects that inform their practice—director Izzy Cohan gets Arcangel chatting about everything from baby monitors (how can they be turned into art?) to the machines that power digital menus in McDonald's.
Born in the late 1970s, Arcangel's work has consistently, and gleefully, returned to the toys of his childhood. In 2002, the artist infamously hacked a Mario cartridge, deleting everything from the game except an infinity of blocky and floating clouds. These artworks—both meditative and sugary—overthrow fine art's traditional instruments, or force us to think again about the sites in which 'art' plays out; ignoring horse-hair brushes and oil paints in favour of screens, gadgets, and often obsolete systems. For Arcangel, a baby monitor is akin to a block of marble. It's just a question of where—and how—you chisel it.
Alongside his ongoing solo practice as an artist, Arcangel is also a curator. His latest show—co-curated with Tuna Kukielski—recently closed at New York's Lisson Gallery. Titlted Difference Engine, the exhibition sought to balance the mechanical logic of machines with the fetishism of surrealism. The exhibited works played with the ambiguity between clinical robotics and the madcap, and often uncanny, nature of how we use technology in the modern age. What emerged is a picture of modern technology as both a miracle and as misery—something we can get our hands on, but can only just begin to comprehend.

A short animated film that tells the journey of life through the use of epic, beautiful environments and meaningful character animation. It shows how we should open our eyes to the good things that happen every day, to the experiences we share with the people we love, and the silver linings and the lessons to be learnt in even the lowest times.

CANARY CALL
Volcanic islands always had a power of attraction for our family and offered us remarkable experiences. Iceland gave us a taste for photography, my wife was pregnant with our boy as we climbed to the top of the Piton de la Fournaise on Reunion Island and Lanzarote was our first trip to 4. This attraction brought back to the Canary Islands this summer and more particularly to Tenerife and La Palma. As much lunar landscape, lush forest in the middle of steep mountains and charming cities. A call to an archipelago bathed by the Sun during the day and the Milky Way and Bloody Moon at night.

TINK by Mr Kaplin
Tink is a studio project that evolved from a series of animations experiments we created in April 2018. Drawing on elements of these animations and what we’d learnt over the month we created a warehouse of experiments that was brought to life with sound design by our friends at Box of Toys.
Each month Mr Kaplin choses a different theme as a springboard for a series of short, in-house animation and design exercises.

More of the Same Tomorrow
"More of the Same Tomorrow" is an independent, self-funded, straight from the heart exercise in filmmaking, spearheaded by English filmmaker Ben Lankester and Swedish artist David Hedberg.
Attempting to bridge the gap between music video and short film, our aim was to tell a single story that would accompany the new five-song EP from East London musical collective Clapton Fox. What began as an idea to shoot a narrative video in the band's hometown of Warsaw quickly escalated into an experimental and frighteningly ambitious journey into the unknown. Filmed across a week in Warsaw in the middle of winter with an additional studio day back in London, "More of the Same Tomorrow" emerged from the rubble of a true filmmaking odyssey.
Ultimately, what we hoped to create was an essay film on time and routine and progress and destiny, revealing the ever-present, all-destructive nature of the ticking clock, how it continues and passes by, how it is impossible to shed.
Thank you for taking your time to watch our film.

INDOCHINE | Station 13
From the transatlantic slave trade in the 16th century to the conquest and subjugation of indigenous people in the 19th century to current race riots in major urban cities, the ideological pattern of intolerance, bigotry and prejudice has been omnipresent throughout history. This film depicts the representation of what initially appears to be ordinary men persecuted by society. Inspired by the paintings of Caravaggio, Peter Paul Rubens, and conflicts during the civil rights movement, “Station 13” follows the blows of extraordinarily public transgressions that shine a light on the cycle of confrontation of civil liberties and systemic racism. It’s about humanity’s ignorance and the fear of the unknown, which in turn acts as a powerful statement against prejudice. The film is set to “Station 13” by Indochine, a French rock and new wave band that has become one of the most popular French groups of the last thirty years.
The video was exhibited in French cinemas before screenings of Steven Soderbergh's new film 'Unsane'.

Although this camera still has unresolved problems inherited from the “old” BMCC, it is making waves already.

Summer Rain
Do we long for Summer Rain? Many of us do! For a long time, weeks, months we didn’t had much rain here in the Netherlands and that is very rare. South Spain and Portugal are suffering from very hot conditions with temperatures of almost 48 degrees Celsius. (almost a record) So I hope this video will give you some refreshment.
The whole video was made in my backyard, just before the long period of draught.
