It is minus twenty-five degrees Celcius and the sheer cold is biting my skin. The air inhaled makes my lungs cough and the water vapor depositing on my facial hair instantly freezes as I exhale. There is no sounds around me but the cracking snow under my boots. The ice crystals reflect every bit of light coming from the stars above. The night sky is absolutely pristine. It’s one of the darkest I have seen to date. However a strange light seems to often brighten the sky. At times it remains a slow-moving whitish glow but it sometimes explodes into a firework of colors, shapes and brightnesses. The aurora borealis lightens everything up underneath: trees, hills, ice and even the water from the northern Norwegian fjords. There truly is something inexplicably magical about the polar nights.
‘Into The Polar Night’ tells the story of ten days of astrophotography spent within the arctic circle chasing the darkest skies and the northern lights in the harshest conditions. I traveled from Kiruna in Swedish Lapland to Senja island in Norway, going through Abisko, Sweden. It enabled me to encounter all the possible nordic landscapes: the boreal forest extending for hundreds of miles, huge frozen lakes with ice formations, snow-capped mountains, jagged-edged ridges rising up from the sea, the milder northern fjords with their beautiful colors. I got extremely lucky as all my ten days were sunny and all my ten nights were clear and full of aurorae. I went out to shoot every night trying different locations and subjects along the road, which eventually allowed me to stack up around 30,000 shots and a terabyte of data! I was amazed by the results: each scene offered a very eerie and mystical atmosphere that I wanted to transcribe back in the final short film. When the aurora was weaker the milky way, galaxies, nebulae and shooting stars stole the show. I was lucky enough to experience five solar sub-storms almost back to back and they produced all the different types of aurorae a chaser wants to capture: bands, pillars, pulsating, coronas, arcs. I also witnessed all the color palette: greens, yellows, blues, pinks, magentas, reds, turquoise and orange! It really was the spectacle of a lifetime, one that tops all the other natural spectacles you thought were unbeatable.
There are about three or four signature shots that I am extremely happy about. The first one (3:19) where the northern light crossed path with the milky way above the bay of Skaland, Norway, producing a beautiful X shape along the Andromeda Galaxy. The second one (3:04) is a tracked view of Aldebaran with the Hyades (in Taurus), and the Pleiades photobombed by green and pink auroras and setting above the mountains of Abisko. Note how the snow reflects the colors of the aurorae! The third one (3:11) is also a tracked shot of the Cygnus area in the milky way showing the North American nebula and the Sadr region (along Deneb) completely overtaken by the blinding green of the aurora. This shot was particularly difficult to produce because long exposures can definitely blow out the highlights in the aurora. Some of my favorite shots are also the different ice sculptures (frozen waterfalls and stalactites) reflecting the green of the moving aurora borealis in the background. However you will probably see many other cool astronomy features in this video (spot the Triangulum galaxy above the Devil’s Teeth of Senja in the scene at 3:27!). This 7 minute-long film is the result of countless hours of travel, shooting and post-production. My goal was to make you discover the hidden gems of the 'Great North' and somehow prove that everything the (fairy)tales tell is true! I shot everything with a Canon 6D Baader modified, the Sony a7s and the Sony a7rII. I utilized a variety of sharp and bright lenses (mostly Sigma and Samyang) ranging from 14mm to 300mm. All shots where pre-processed in Lr, exported and assembled into Sequence, and post-produced in FCPX. The absolutely mesmerizing soundtrack has been especially handcrafted for this film by the talented Peter Nanasi (more of his work at peternanasi.bandcamp.com/). All the clips are copyrighted AMP&F and may not be used for any purpose without the owner’s agreement. Please contact me at adphotography2410@gmail.com for licensing and other inquiries. Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed the marvels of the polar nights as much as I did. Don’t hesitate to like, comment, share and of course follow me for more 4K videos!

Experience the beauty of Mt. Everest at night in time-lapse. While most climbers slept, I attempted to capture some of the magic that the Himalayan skies have to offer while climbing to the top of the world.
These time lapse Images were captured as high as 6200m (camp 2) above sea level on Mt. Everest. We slept at 6000m for three consecutive nights on the summit of Mt. Lobuche East waiting for a glimpse of Everest from that vantage point. Around 11pm on the 2nd night, the skies opened up and the top of the world revealed herself in all of her glory.
No where else on the planet have I ever seen the Milky Way so clear, so vivid and so very much alive. It takes a great deal of discipline to stay up all night capturing the magic for the world to experience. Cameras freeze.Shutters freeze. Batteries freeze. Humans freeze. The high altitude environment is debilitating at best. Your body is taking a constant beating by the low levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. The higher you climb of course, the worse this becomes.
And yet... this is heaven on Earth for me. This is my comfort zone. This is where I feel alive. This is where the combination of my love for imagery, astrophotography, storytelling and connection with the mountains all intersect. I toss logic out the window on clear nights and run all of my cameras until all batteries are exhausted, CF cards are filled and the sun re-emerges for yet another beautiful day. It’s my oxygen. It fuels me. Energizes me. And keeps me in a flow state.
My tribute to Everest - In Time Lapse.
Enjoy!

Aotearoa is the Maori Name for New Zealand it translates to "the land of the long white cloud". Over the past year I have explored New Zealand trying to capture the beauty of this amazing country through my timelapses.
I have been fortunate to spend the last year living in New Zealand and have had the pleasure of experiencing some of the amazing landscapes that this country has to offer. This is my first attempt at a timelapse video and have spent countless hours hiking around lugging a heavy pack through the mountains to get to some of these awesome vistas.
This timelapse includes scenes from Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park, Mt. Aspiring National Park, Fiordland National Park, Taranaki National Park, Catlins Forest Park, Tongoriro National Park, Wanaka and Queenstown. I feel lucky to have been able to explore this amazing country and share its beauty.

Most red, blue, or purple flowers contain pigments called anthocyanins, whose colors are sensitive to pH (the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution). As a result, when we immerse a blue flower into an acid or basic solution, its color is likely to change to red in acid condition, or to green or yellow in basic condition. In this film, to get the most dramatic effects, we immersed all flowers in saturated sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solutions and used macro lenses and a microscope to capture their glorious color transformations.

For an instant, I am. The light touches me gently and I live, burst and shine. This constant, irreversible, rhythmic drift from being to not. Only the memories left. Escaping desires. The love and the pain. I only have an instant of life. So please. This film is an ode to the rhythm of being.

We've crossed paths many a times.
We've even been introduced through mutual acquaintances once or twice, in fact we finished off last year's Quik Pro sinking beers and dancing to her music, but we never truly met Lee-Ann Curren until winter hit our shores.
For the record, winter this year was long. In fact we might still be in it.
The Basque Coast can suddenly become a very small place, a handful of locals left to endure the storm whilst fraudulent neighbours head for the slopes.
Those of us that remain naturally form a bond. A mutual understanding and respect for our perseverance and stupidity to see the winter solstice through.
It's during these months we became friends with Lee-Ann. She's not hard to miss. When you’re the daughter of arguably the best pro surfer of all time,
it’s no easy feat to go unseen. It's even harder to carve your own path yet Lee-Ann's done just that. Despite sharing her offspring's roots in both surfing and music alike, she's managed to forge her own fortune, content in achieving her own goals, regardless of the status quo.
We decided to document our time with the 28 year old (along with her adopted border collie Bowie) and discussed music, growing up in the Basque Country and the pressures of living up to her heritage.
Supported by The Vans UltraRange collection, enabling creative pursuits from all corners of the globe, as worn by Lee-Ann. Discover more here: vans.com/ultrarange.html

Aotearoa is the Maori Name for New Zealand it translates to "the land of the long white cloud".

Slovenia is one of Europe’s best kept traveller secrets. It is a small country that boasts wonderfully diverse geography: high Alpine peaks, idyllic countryside, vibrant city life, tranquil villages and a stretch of coastline. Tourism has been picking up over the last years, but it is still an amazing place to vistit.
Travel trough amazing nature sites like Lake Bled, Vintgar Gorge and Bohinj lake. Vist the amazing Škocjan Cave and the Predjama Castle. Enjoy the adriatic coast at Prian and take a trip to the picturesque capital of Ljubljana.

On a more human and less technical note: I’ve kept these images hidden for almost 4 years. They were created in 2014 and 2015 - the two deadliest seasons in Everest history. Many lost their lives and I was at ground zero both years. I’m not sure I’ll ever un-see what I saw those two seasons during and after the avalanches. Somehow I felt keeping these images hidden showed respect for the fallen. The images at camp 2 were created right after the 2014 avalanche that claimed the lives of 16 Sherpas. We were trapped above the area where 16 died at Camp 1 and 2 and had to remain in place for three days, unable to assist in the evacuations. Shooting the night skies helped with the helplessness we all felt. In 2015, everything you see in this video was captured days before we got hit by the avalanche at basecamp during the Earthquake. No one can ever be prepared fo such devastation. It’s taken a long time to work through the loss and perhaps somehow, releasing these images is my way of fully letting go and remembering the beauty, the wonder and freedom that comes along with climbing the world’s tallest peak. Chomolongma - Mother Goddess of the Earth.
My tribute to Everest - In Time Lapse.
Enjoy!

Ever since he was a kid, David Aguilar was obsessed with Lego. He spent his childhood building cars, planes, helicopters, and eventually, his own prosthetic. Born with a deformed arm, the self-named “Hand Solo” decided to take his Lego-building skills to the next level. At age 18, he perfected his designs with the MK7, a prosthetic arm with the ability to bend and pick up objects with a pincer-like grip. Now, he’s the coolest kid on the block.

Canvas has joined forces with It’s Nice That to make a series of three films which peer inside the walls of three of Britain’s best-loved cultural institutions to turn all your expectations about art galleries upside down.
It’s Nice That harnessed the talents of three rising creative talents — Robert Wallace who is also known as Parallel Teeth, Laurie Rowan and Rose Pilkington — and paired them with Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, FACT in Liverpool and Turner Contemporary, Margate.
It was the varied purpose of FACT as an architectural space which initially caught the attention of animator Laurie Rowan, visiting the gallery to scope an idea for his film. “I realised that the real focal point of FACT was the building,” he tells It’s Nice That. “It’s an amazing building with light leading in really tall places. Looking at the building upside down you could see these concrete structures like ramps almost, and I thought ok, this could be a really good playground for characters.”
FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool not only hosts a year-round diverse programme of exhibitions, but is a multifaceted creative hub to stop by each day. The space boasts three galleries, four cinema screens, a multimedia suite and a cafe with a lounge area. Each of these counterparts which make up FACT is housed in a towering piece of architecture, designed by the firm Austin-Smith: Lord.
