A Dream Dressed in Black

I often wonder what the world would look like if the ancient cultures of the past had survived repeated attempts to have their faiths banished from popular practise through colonisation.

Did the ancient Mexican culture die during the conquest by the Spaniards in the 16th century, and are the remaining indigenous populations simply fossils, condemned five hundred years ago to disappear because they have no place in the present?

The liberty of the past, the golden age before colonial domination, is not a dead past lost forever, but the basis of hope. In the cycle of time that age will come again.

49 Miles Surrounded by Reality

49 Miles Surrounded by Reality is a visual film shot in and around Northern California with a focus on the Bay Area. The goal of the film was to use it as a visual exploration showcasing how connected to nature that the area really is. I wanted to explore these locations as a way to familiarize myself with San Francisco while also sharing the experience with others.

This film was shot in collaboration with Mark Daws, Matthew Price, Leo Maco, Riley Moynes and Kristina Frost.

Inspired by Paul Kantner.

The music is 'Cerulea' by Kevin Graham and was licensed through Soundstripe.

Kenzo Takada's Hands - NOWNESS

Buenos Aires-based filmmaking collective 1985 offer a unique portrait of the Kenzo founder, told through his hands. Speaking about their original approach to portraiture, the directorial collective explain: "We believe hands can tell you a lot about a person, because hands do not have a social construction—they’re the same when we are with people and when we are alone."

A taste of INDIA

Great food, world's most famous buildings, the people, the madness, the holy festivals, great colours and the contradictions... it's easy to fall in love with India.

We traveled one month from the backwaters of Kerala to the madness of Delhi. Personally, travel is all about the experience and therefore India was heaven on Earth for me.

Traveling in this country has been a life-changing experience. All the senses and the reasons why I love India are not because of the obvious, famous attractions like the Taj Mahal or the beaches of Goa. It were the little everyday things, everyday sights, sounds and smells that left a neverending impression and keeps me willing to return to this incredible country again and again...

Places we've been:

Kerala, Cochin, Mumbai, Varanasi (Benares), Agra, Rajasthan (Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer) & Delhi.

GEAR:

- Sony a6500
- Lenses: Sony 24-70 f4, Sigma 30mm f1.4, Nikkor 50mm f1.4

Pause 2018 Motion Response - Lift in the moment by Carbon

It’s confronting to step into the unknown.
Reassurance or validation is sought from anywhere we can find it; at least for that bit confidence to move forward. Building on experiences, exploring new environments, adapting to the unfamiliar, all becomes part and parcel of progress.
But what if it all gets too much? Finding yourself and fitting in, compromise and keeping up?
Sometimes you just need to pull yourself out of it, appreciate the people around you, and enjoy every moment. Because life should be more uplifting.

Islands of Aloha

Hawai’i is often synonym with paradise, a must-see destination to enjoy Nature’s best creations. And with reason. Blessed with outstanding beaches and rugged coasts, deep canyons and evergreen valleys, a capital city resting against a volcanic crater and volcanoes amongst the stars, there is no other place like the Hawaiian archipelago.

Islands of Aloha is an attempt to capture what makes the most isolated inhabited landmass in the world so special.

As the Hawaiians say: "ʻohoiho!" (enjoy!)

NEBULA

EN------------------

NEBULA is an experiment that aims at finding the link between two trends that develop simultaneously in the history of film – Lumières concept of a movie as a record of reality and Méliés’s idea that uses the film as a tool for creation of imaginative worlds. NEBULA draws from both of these approaches and becomes a combination, collage, in which the recorded figurative picture is intermingled with abstract compositions being the graphic equivalent of music. The project using the volumetric filmmaking technique (RGB+D) is, on the one hand, the recording of an event (a meeting of musicians playing a jazz composition “Sleepwalker” by Maciej Obara) and, on the other, an attempt to obtain the visual experience of music by using the soundtrack of a recorded piece of music at the stage of post-production. The picture created as a result of the recording represents the “Lumières line” that aims at reflecting the reality in the most accurate way. Musical layer that has its sources also in the recording becomes a tool for creation of abstract visual compositions that does not bear traits of reality (Méliés’s line). These two approaches are combined into an audio visual form resembling a video clip.
The aim of this project, besides examining the links between record and creation based on non-figurative forms, is also the exploration of the new volumetric filmmaking technique (picture recorded by a Kinect sensor).

PL------------------

The Look Elsewhere - NOWNESS

Artists Samuel Fasse and Morgan Belenguer authored this multidimensional artwork that was performed at the Palais de Tokyo during last year’s Paris Fashion Week. The work, which in this video version is coupled with uncanny virtual landscapes, blurs the boundaries between the real and the simulated, while expanding the artwork into the virtual via the VR-headset wearing dancers. The performance is currently on show at Joyce Gallery, Paris, until 26 February.

Transsiberian Dream - 7.923 km from Beijing to Moscow

The Trans-Siberian Railway, another dream come true! The world's longest railway line starts from Moscow and runs 9,288 kilometers through seven time zones to Vladivostok. In May 2017 I was able to document this unique 16-day trip aboard the legendary Zarengold train together with my colleague Christopher Schmid. We traveled the route in the opposite direction and deviated a little from the original route (Trans-Mongolian Railway). Our journey took us along 7,923 km (nearly 5,000 miles) of rail from Beijing via Erlian, through the Gobi desert to Ulaanbaatar, on to Ulan-Ude, along Lake Baikal to Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan and finally to Moscow. From the rickshaw ride through Beijing, a night in a Mongolian yurt, a bath in the five degrees Celsius cold Lake Baikal and the legendary vodka tasting aboard the Zarengold train - I sum up the highlights in my new short “TRANSSIBERIAN DREAM”. All aboard!

2017 ★ Amazing Scotland ★ Flying over the Highlands

After many years as a landscape photographer I wanted to enjoy a new point of view. I had always been attracted by everything that flies and of course by drones, but I had not decided to try one yet... That's how, just introduced the Spark, I ordered one and I took it with me to a stunning motorhome trip with my partner around the north of Scotland. I had a great time learning to fly... and to film! Here's the result. I hope you'll like it and await for your comments!

L’orchestre D’hibernation Animaux - How Animals Hibernate

What if hibernating animals of different species formed an orchestra and performed a symphony about their winter’s sleep? Well, they did—sort of.

Because this is the science version of "Peter and the Wolf"... A flute playing wood frog who freezes. A bassoon blowing painted turtle who (ahem) breathes through its butt. A trumpet blasting common poorwill who falls asleep anywhere, anytime. A harp plucking mosquito who goes into a sci-fi suspended animation. A drum thumping black bear who stays fat all winter long. And, of course, a theremin tuning Antarctic cod who goes semi-comatose in the dark.

Ladies and gentlemen, "The Sleep Cycle" by L’orchestre D’hibernation Animaux.

The Ningyo (episode one)

A 1911 Faustian tale about losing oneself in the process of achieving our goals. Told through the world of cryptozoology.

Episode One:-
Professor Marlowe finds a piece of a map pointing to the place where the Ningyo, a mythical Japanese creature, could be found. The legend claims whomever consumes its flesh will attain remarkable longevity. He presents the project to his peers, who mock and dismiss him as a fraud. He decides to risk everything and go after the Ningyo on his own in hopes to bring to light what could be one of the greatest contributions to science. What he could not anticipate is that, in his search, he is confronted with a choice that puts the very foundations of his morality to the test.

The Majority of this film was shot in our living room.

Private View: Jenny Holzer at Blenheim Palace - NOWNESS

American artist Jenny Holzer unveiled her latest show at an expansive country house in Oxfordshire—the location of Blenheim Art Foundation. The artist's installation, which extends across the historic site, explores—in gigantic walls of light, stonework, painting and installation—themes of power, conflict, and the aftermath of war.

For the Blenheim Palace installation, Holzer partnered with the Not Forgotten Association (NFA), a British charity that serves the needs of wounded, sick and disabled service members of the British military. The NFA have gathered a large archive of first-person testimonials from survivors of war, which Holzer used in the artwork—addressing the ways that an understanding of war can never be separated from lived, personal experience.
