Anamorphic LA

This timelapse piece was shot in and around the Los Angeles area using a Sony A7R2 and a Sony A7S2 equipped with PL to e-mount lens adaptors. The lenses used were 2 vintage anamorphics that have a 2x squeeze on the image when it is being shot. Also since the lenses were cine lenses used for 35mm motion picture film they won't cover the entire full frame sensor of the two cameras. Using a method I developed in After Effects I was able to un-squeeze the footage and give it the appropriate crop so the places not covered by the lenses wasn't shown in the final image. Shooting in anamorphic was very different experience and doesn't give you the flexibility you get shooting normal spherical lenses. When you frame a shot and start shooting what you see in the frame is what your going to get. There's very little room for re-framing a shot in post. The 2 lenses I used for this piece were the Nipponscope 25mm T2 PL mount and the Todd-AO high Speed 50mm T1.4 PL mount. Both of the lenses were pretty old but they give the piece a different look.

Motion Control equipment used for this piece was the Kessler Second Shooter and the TLS.
