3000 KM

Roberto D'Amico Featuring Leonardo Fioravanti having fun on the Mediterranean coast.
3000 Km it's all about 2 swells from different direction. The first one is filmed up North with Leo, the second one is down South. The video really show you the vibes and culture Italy has to offer. It's hard to read swell charts, everything changes really quickly but once you are in the right place at the right time could be really fun, ENJOY!

Salween Spring

An American outfitter in China and the Tao of fighting a losing battle.

Meet Travis Winn, an American who traveled to China for the first time 15 years ago to join his dad on a first descent of the Headwaters of the Salween River in Tibet. On that first trip Travis realized that most Chinese citizens had no way to get out and experience free-flowing rivers. And later he learned that at the rate these rivers were being dammed, very few people would ever have a chance to see the rivers in their pristine and natural state. Risking his mental and physical health, Travis continues to strive toward his personal goal to bring the Chinese people closer to their rivers.

AWAKENING 4K

"Awakening," is my first major film that I've worked on and is very special to me. I was first introduced to photography when I was 14, during a two week backpacking trip in Colorado. I picked up timelapse shortly after, and have spent the last two summers timelapsing from the high peaks of the Colorado Rockies to the steamy geysers in Yellowstone National Park. It was in these places where my passion for photography and timelapse was 'awakened.’ My discovery of photography has changed my view on the world around me and has allowed me to see and do many incredible things. Roughly 20,000 photos have gone into this film, and after months of filming, traveling, and editing, I am happy to be able to share my project with you.

NEW YORK RISING

New York Rising is a culmination of a series of helicopter flights and many months of filming time-lapses. What originally started off as a commissioned project to gather supporting scenes for a feature film, quickly turned into a showcase of New York's beauty and growth. For this edit we focused solely on Manhattan. Each member of the Discover Footage team has their own personal attachments to New York, so flying high above the clouds, doors off was truly a moment we all felt lucky to experience.

The cloud footage was from an early morning helicopter flight, while a rare weather pattern grounded most in Manhattan. We flew into the city from New Jersey and ended up being the only as the only people in the sky in what's normally a busy area for air traffic. We landed with over two terabytes of footage and memories that won't soon be forgotten.

Shot with the Sony a7s and Atomos Shogun in 4K.

The Case Of The Three Sided Dream

http://ift.tt/1rFVUiW

Rahsaan Roland Kirk was a one of a kind musician, personality, satirist and windmill-slayer who despite being blind, becoming paralyzed, and facing America’s racial injustices – did not relent.

His life’s work was exploring sound and making music. Beyond that, he was an outspoken activist who started a political movement to get more exposure for Jazz in America – particularly on TV.

Dreams were important to Rahsaan. They planted the seed in his mind to play three horns simultaneously. His name came from dreams. When asked about his religious beliefs, he would say: “I’m from the Religion of Dreams”.
At the age of 40, Rahsaan suffered a stroke which left him half paralyzed. Despite this, he continued to tour and play music, with the use of only one hand, literally until the day he died.

Against Empathy

Paul Bloom, psychologist and Yale professor, argues that empathy is a bad thing—that it makes the world worse. While we've been taught that putting yourself in another's shoes cultivates compassion, it actually blinds you to the long-term consequences of your actions. In this animated interview from The Atlantic, we hear Bloom’s case for why the world needs to ditch empathy.

AOEDE LYRICS:

Wash this flood off of me
I am my mirror’s prisoner
Aoede
Aoede
Again I summon you
Bleed out my demons to water your grave
Perchance to sow a melody
Aoede
Reward me
Conquer my mouth
Reward your acolyte

If words be breath
And life be breath
Speak to me
Speak to me
Your ghost frightens me
Though you’ve always been a ghost
If only it spoke to me, the words might raise me
Aoede
Comfort me
Bleed out the words within me
Reward those who pray

Sins

“Everything at some point has been declared the root of all evil.”
― Criss Jami, Killosophy

Though the sins have fluctuated over time, the currently recognized list includes
pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth. There is a parallel tradition of seven virtues.
The seven deadly sins are called "capital" because they are the origins of other vices.
This is my visual poem.

Jim: The James Foley Story

http://ift.tt/26yGNHU

Winner of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.

In August 2014, the video execution of American conflict journalist James Foley by the militant group ISIS challenged the world to deal with a new face of terror. But 40-year-old Foley was more than just the victim of this brutal killing. Seen through the lens of filmmaker Brian Oakes, Foley’s childhood friend, JIM: The James Foley Story takes viewers from small-town New England to the adrenaline-fueled front lines of Libya and Syria, where Foley pushed the limits of danger to report on the plight of civilians impacted by war. The film culminates in Foley’s 2012 capture by ISIS and the confusion and emotional upheaval that followed, ending in his tragic death nearly two years later. Foley’s family, friends, and colleagues help tell Jim’s story, while his fellow hostages reveal the details of captivity with chilling immediacy. Gut-wrenching and powerful, with unparalleled access, JIMis a harrowing chronicle of bravery, compassion, and pain at the dawn of America’s war with ISIS.

Joe

Joe Riis has the job that every child in the world dreams of: He is a celebrated National Geographic wildlife photographer. He spends his life embarking on adventures to the wildest places on Earth, often for months on end, to observe and photograph animals for National Geographic Magazine. He seemingly has the picture perfect life. Or does he?

This film tells a more personal story of an oft idolized character to remind that even those who have achieved it all still face many of the struggles that everyone else does. It also celebrates how a man’s love for the wilderness has helped to further curiosity, respect and protection for the natural world around us.

Wow! Thank you everyone for your fantastic support and interest in the project. Its a relief to see that the idea of photographing bus stops from the former Soviet Union was maybe not so crazy after all. This limited edition of 1500 is pretty much all preordered. If you are still interested send an email to info@herwigphoto.com for updates on possible future editions or to be on the list for unclaimed books from this edition.

Vera Kavalkova-Halvarsson has joined our team, heading up our research effort and has been busy interviewing some of the fantastic individuals who were behind this unique art form. These insights will be included in the background section of the book, all of which is coming together beautifully and will be off to the printer in the middle of April.

-----------------------
Photographer Christopher Herwig has been hunting bus stops in remote corners of the former Soviet Union since he stumbled upon them while biking to St. Petersburg in 2002. He has covered more than 30,000 km by car, bus and taxi in 13 countries discovering and documenting these strange works of art created behind the Iron Curtain. From the shores of the Black Sea to the endless Kazakh steppe, the bus stops show the range of public art from the Soviet era and give a rare glimpse into the creative minds of the time. Herwig’s series attracted considerable media interest around the world, and now with the project complete, the full collection will be presented in Soviet Bus Stops as a deluxe, limited edition, hard cover photo book. The book represents the most comprehensive and diverse collection of Soviet bus stop design ever assembled.

Behind the Schoolbag 觀照

“Behind the Schoolbag” is a story about self-salvation. Having suffered from a miserable childhood, Shaun couldn’t help but question his own value. Human relationship has always been Shaun’s barrier, sometimes, he wishes he could stay alone, but in reality, Shaun has to re-enter the society. Staying in his own comfort zone, Shaun can do nothing but lock up his heart and distant himself from others.
All the stress and pressure in modern life is driving people insane. We have to learn how to sooth our own emotions so as to survive. We can do nothing but meditate and reflect upon ourselves. We can observe the truth and the essence wisely and feel the presence of now and start living.
