Charming Chile - A Chile Travel Video

Chile is one hell of a charming and colorful country to travel in, from the adorable culture of Easter Island, to the alien landscape of Atacama to the pristine lakes and mountains of Patagonia, Charming Chile will take you to all of these places and more! Be sure to watch to the end and further for some fun extra videos. ;)

Easter Island! After 4 years of wanting to visit the island, I'd finally made it and wow, was it well worth the effort! As I was traveling down from Atacama desert through Santiago to Patagonia, I'd seen the wonderful port city of Valparaiso, hiked up to witness lava spewing from Villarrica Volcano in Pucon, walked the famous Torres del Paine trail in Patagonia and ended my Chile trip at the Easter Island celebrating with the locals, one of the best festivals in the world, the Tapati Festival.

Easter Island was definitely the highlight of the trip and the best way to end my 6-months long trip in South America. I rented a quad bike and drove around the island for 5 days, enjoying the clear sky, laying on my bike under the clearest Milky Way I've ever seen, watching the sunrise behind the Ahu Tongariki Moai head statues, and watching the Rapa Nui people celebrated the greatest festival of all, the Tapati Festive and danced away their heart out and all of that are compressed in this 7 minutes video!

7 minutes is too long for a travel video, you asked? Don't worry, the travel video itself is around 3 minutes as usual but be sure to watch all the way to the end and beyond for some extra content. ;) As some of you may know, I like to leave extra footages at the end of my travel video for those who watched til the end and Charming Chile is the only video where this extra footages are almost as long as the travel video it self as I have a ton of unused clips from the Tapati Festival I want to share with you.

I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did traveling through the country!

Terra Argentina or the Land of Silver in Latin is a travel video that followed my journey to the end of the world as I completed by land travel of South America in its entirety from North to South in 6 months back in 2017. From the lush green tropical jungle of Iguazu to the sweeping breathtaking landscape of Patagonia, the video will take you to the end of the world to the nearest largest city to Antarctica, Ushuaia which, frankly, is so much better than the "end of the world" we are currently living in right now during this pandemic.

This is what a month of traveling looks like in Argentina. Buenos Aires was a great vibrant city! Bariloche is definitely the Switzerland of Argentina! Patagonia? Love everything about it, especially El Chalten and seeing Fitz Roy had always been a dream of mine since forever. Ushuaia is cold but beautiful. To think that I was so near to Antarctica, and yet only 5000 USD away from going there. I didn't have the gut to pay that much quite yet so maybe next time!

Last but not least Iguazu Falls. There's waterfalls and then there's Iguazu Falls. Damn, this place blew my mind. I thought I have seen enough waterfalls in my life time but Iguazu was so different, so epic that I would say that it is one of the best one in the world.

I hope you enjoy this video as much as I was making them!

KYRGYZSTAN | Timelapse

With this video, I want you to explore in ultra-high definition and through the technique of Timelapse, the incredible and variety of landscapes in this almost unknown country in Central Asia.

During the first part of the trip I explored with Visit Karakol and landscape photographers, Albert Dros, the south region around Lenin Peak, Arslanbob and Sary-Chelek, in the second part I hiked few days around Karakol Valley, visiting Ala-Kul an alpine lake at 3.500m and Sary-Jaz Valley close to China’s borders. My goal with this film is to inspire you to visit and explore this beautiful country, so I hope you will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Geeks part:

I came back with 5TB of data, 42.000 Raw, which converted in 107 Timelapse; I also made 6 Tavel Journals showing the behind the scene and the travel involved. The edit of this film took around two months.

To shoot the Timelapse in 8K I used the Sony A7RIII with various Canon lenses, 16-35 f/4L, 24-70 f/4L, and 70-200 f/4L, the motion was created with the Rhino RŌV Pro Traveler and the Dynamic Perception Stage One and R.

To film the Travel Journals, I used the Sony A7III with the Samyang 24mm f/2.8 and the Zhiyun crane M.

Feel free to drop a comment and let me know if you have any questions about the film or the trip.

Katy Perry - Daisies

For Katy Perry's new single 'Daisies', we imagined a world that illustrate the perseverance of a girl who overcomes the obstacles getting in her way. This is represented by a rock that keeps invading her house, transforming it into different surreal spaces. It finally culminates with the character rising above it all and coming out stronger on the other side.

The video was created thanks to the talent of more than 40 artists from around the world, all working remotely from home.

Portrait of a Place: Dam

“I originally set out to make a film that combines the aesthetic beauty of a horse with the pounding viscerality of the races at White Turf,” says British photographer Samuel Bradley of his directorial debut. “I discovered a more arresting narrative in Julie and her relationship with horses. She tells us that it is not natural for a human to sit upon a horse, but we may do so if we behave as if we are horses and enter into their world.”

Red Bull - Originate

In sport, success is often defined by measuring yourself against the competition. With little change to the landscape of Alaska since her first trip 10 years ago, big mountain skier Michelle Parker returns to Haines to test her skillset in the mountains. As she revisits some of the steepest, most unforgiving lines of her career, we discover that her metric for success isn't measured by competition, Alaskan spines or blower pow, but found within.

TO THE SURFACE.

LEARN MORE: gnarlybay.com/to-the-surface
.
“This whole crisis shows that we need to feed ourselves as close to home as we can.” -Jason Jarvis, local RI fisherman
.
Like most things, Covid-19 wreaked havoc on the RI seafood industry. We wanted to explore this topic to raise awareness to the struggles and try to find some common sense solutions to the challenges (while being mindful of safety and social distancing). Our DP Tyler Murgo grew up seeing his family harvest seafood from wild places. As everything falls apart, it feels urgent to capture the wisdom and perspectives of local fishermen during this historical moment. Some close to home, with Tyler’s brother Kenny Murgo, and others who have been fighting for change in RI for years like Jason Jarvis. Huge thanks to them for trusting us to tell their story.
.
During production, on May 1st 2020, an emergency action passed, temporarily allowing fishermen in Rhode Island to sell finned fish directly off the boat to consumers. The hope is to make this emergency regulation permanent. Here are few steps to move further towards developing a local market for the wild food that lives in our backyards.
.
1. Go to your local port and try new fish you haven’t tried before.
2. Support small local fish markets that buy from local fishermen.
3. Demand local seafood from the restaurants and markets you go to.
4. Share this video with fellow Rhode Islanders

The Seed of Juna - Pilot

This is the 13 minutes pilot of The Seed of Juna made with offline render engines. However, The Seed of Juna will migrate to real-time technology in the future.

The Seed of Juna is nine 22-minute episodes, 3D animated scifi epic.

Juna is born after being killed by a ruling sect on Earth. As she comes to accept her new disposition in an unknown and frightening place, she will try to find her executioner.

The Seed of Juna is created and directed by an independent filmmaker and VFX artist Álvaro García Martinez. Álvaro grew up in Madrid and developed a passion for animation and filmmaking from an early age. He officially kicked off his career in 2010 as a 3D generalist. In 2014, Álvaro directed and produced a short animated film SUMER, which swept a number of selections and awards within the festival circuit, including an official selection at the Academy-qualifying Cleveland Film Festival. As a VFX artist, Álvaro has worked with a number of top facilities, including MPC and ILM, where he developed visual effects for a number of box office successes, such as The Jungle Book, Ready Player One, Avengers, and Pacific Rim. More recently, Álvaro has been leading real-time solutions for Dneg and sharing his knowledge and passion for innovative technologies in filmmaking through a personal educational project. In his work, Álvaro uses sci-fi genre to create stories, which take the audience on a visually and emotionally captivating journey exploring human relationships with themselves and others.

Tāura

Tāura is a polynesian legend. Tāura are animals, plants and minerals that are "allied" with humans, families, clans. They are considered fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters. The relationship with them is fraternal and respectful.

The last long shot was certainely one of the dive I've ever done. I was so grateful to spend so much time with the mother and her baby.

I choosed this letterbox cause it has a "vintage" look and it reminds me some really good memories. It also has the aspect (like a POV) of what I see with my mask during the dive.

All was shot in Polynesia in november 2019.

The Sand That Ate The Sea

In the opal mining red dirt of Andamooka, South Australia; a son faces the memories of the mysterious disappearance of his father in a great flooding storm, while the same storm appears on his own horizon.

The South Australian desert is a mystical place - millennia ago it was an ocean, and opalised aquatic dinosaur fossils are still found in the dirt there today. It is home to an arid land and deep, old magic. It is a place of endless sweeping salt flats and undulating flat red earth.

Andamooka is where the frontier is, and the last of the great Australian frontiersmen call it home. The land is a stolen land, and a cursed land - and the magic of that wound has a unique way of working on the people that are born there new, and those who came before.

Ani Wa Sa

Ani Wa Sa is set in DR Congo’s Garamba National Park which is globally recognized as ground zero in Africa’s poaching wars. Fewer than 1,200 elephants remain.

Two brothers who come from a line of central African Zande hunters, seek to protect their local forest from seemingly opposing avenues: one through family tradition and the other as part of a national park ranger team. Though their relationship has fractured, an advancing rebel group seeking to poach and traffick elephant ivory poses a mutual threat and the brothers may need each other to protect the people and wildlife of their homeland for generations to come.

Ani Wa Sa is being used in an innovative on-the-ground mobile cinema initiative to help build bridges of trust and collaboration between central African communities, conservation actors, and humanitarians, in an effort to improve the safety and build the resilience of people and wildlife in this fragile and interdependent ecosystem.

As of March 31, 2020, Invisible Children has screened Ani Wa Sa in 67 communities in northeastern DRC and eastern Central African Republic (CAR), reaching 27,450 people.

This project is part of the USAID-funded Community Resilience in Central Africa (CRCA) Activity, an Invisible Children project made possible by the support of the American people.

Bride headdress ritual

Bride headdress ritual is historically deeply rooted in a folk culture. The first appearances on the Czech territory are dated back to the 15th century, but the ritual is probably much older. This ritual is still alive in some regions. Some people preserve this tradition, consciously or unconsciously to its history. The ritual itself is important to self determination of the individual.

Wreath, a symbol of virginity, is taken away in an intimate moment, usually accompanied by women and burning candles. An important task is given to the godmother of the bride and to a group of women who style the bride's hair. They unravel the braids, take her wreath and put a bonnet on the bride's head.

The audiovisual record of this phenomenon takes place in an indefinite space-time with an emphasis on the intimate atmosphere of the ritual. The art of Georges de La Tour is used to create the scenes. The contrast in the mise-en-scène is increased by using different lights, a natural light coming from the burning candles, but also an artificial light that stresses the symbolic creation of the woman.

Can you believe that what is happening now is real? I couldn’t even imagine such a thing before.
Main idea of my video is how the World was changed during pandemic situation and how our lifes is change. Everything was very fast before and we spent our time in offices and shopping malls. Then motion outside was stopped and streets have become empty. Our cities have become ghost towns. All people moved to their homes and continued their life inside. But in general they only has moved from one cells to another like bees in a hive.

What impressions do you have watching this timelapse? Does it resemble our current life? Or maybe something else? Write down in the comments!

The shots for this video have been shot over the past few years in cities such as Singapore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Paris, Rome, Moscow, Barcelona, Prague, Nice, Vienna and Kharkov. The idea to combine them in one video came with self-isolation and the inability to travel to other countries. But any unusual situation is a good reason to do something that I did not do under ordinary conditions. You can see that shots of my video are united by a common idea, and not by geographical location.
