THE OTHER SIDE

No FX, just shooting with inks & paintings.

"The Other Side" is an experimental dreamlike video rocking. The visual compositions have been created out of paint, oil, inks and soap.

The Other Side is an idyllic way to get in the eyes. The retinas of the eyes tear and we circulate in the optic nerves to see all the exchanges of information that occur when we contemplate the world.
All videos were filmed in 8K with the RED Helium camera.
The editing of the video is in 4K.

BAFTA WINNING | A LOVE STORY

Told through the medium of stop motion, two characters, cocooned in their love, go on a heart breaking journey of self discovery. The richly textured world, made from soft cloud like fabrics, is a deceptively innocent space for the raw pain of the the lovers as they fight tooth and nail to hold on to what they once had. Their woven faces are kissed, knotted, ripped and torn in equal measure, ever-weathering in the harsh reality of love. It's a love story, but not like you've seen before.

Made in Korea

Made in Korea.

Once a year, my girlfriend, Hana, goes home to Jeju Island in South Korea to visit her family for Christmas. Last year I went along, with my camera.

Take a trip through the heart of South Korea with us as we visit the bustling city of Seoul, as we travel around Jeju Island, known for women, wind, volcanic rocks and serene temples tucked away inside mountains. But most importantly as we see Hana reunited with her parents whom I was meeting for the very first time.

South Korea took my by surprise, I didn’t expect the amount of untouched natural beauty the country had to offer. This film only captures a tiny piece of what the country has to offer, but I hope it does it some sort of justice.

Kamsahamnida, South Korea.

Please watch on a good screen with some good speakers & turn them up, for best possible viewing experience.

LIVE FAST, DRAW YUNG

The story of Yung Lenox: Rap's most prolific (7-year-old) portraitist.

Described by LA Weekly as the 'Foremost Doodler of Rap', this hilariously endearing film follows Seattle's 7-year-old rap portraitist, Yung Lenox, and his Dad, Skip - an unconventional artistic duo simultaneously navigating the tumultuous worlds of rap and modern-day-parenting. Through Lenox's eyes, ears and encounters with rappers such as Kool Keith and Cam'ron, the film presents an innocent entry point into the idolized and often explicit world of hip hop. It reconsiders the age-old parental advisory debate and the realities of a kid growing up in an adult world. As Skip confronts criticism about his intentions and parenting, Lenox remains unfazed. In his world, art is 'medium important' compared to school, Lego's and Minecraft. And that's why the kid is everyone's favorite artist.

PASSAGE

When the sun goes down, terrestrial activity slows down, cools off, and falls asleep. The stars appear in the deep black sky and the short cycles of terrestrial life give way to cosmic eternities. That is the moment chosen by a tiny soul to leave the Earth.

Let's Not Go Away

Every Christmas we do something a bit unique that represents and challenges our studio's diverse styles and skills. This time we have turned to our new dedicated 2D animation studio who have created something very special.

The first 2D #BZshorts film is directed by People and Talent Coordinator, Katie Gascoyne. Our commitment to pioneering new talent and giving opportunities to ALL staff is at the heart of the shorts program. This year, there was a blind pitch where the whole company was invited to pitch an idea for the music video to Scouting for Girl’s Christmas single. Specifically, the brief asked for an “odd couple.” Katie won the blind pitch with a heart-warming pairing between Dan, a living gingerbread man, and his human girlfriend, Mandy.

Arc'teryx Presents: Out On A Limb

Empathy, efficiency, and a willingness to adapt – Kai Lin’s KLIPPA prosthetic foot is inspired by mountain goats and a desire to help people. Kai’s story explores his unlikely alliance with Arc’teryx athlete, Craig DeMartino, from which the pair serve up a holy grail for adaptive rock climbers – a badass prosthetic foot, that won’t just level the playing field, but will dish up, if not superpowers, then a real sense of empowerment. Which is almost the same thing.

Azerbaijan - Land of Fire

Azerbaijan or as it is known as the Land of Fire was kind of an unknown to me as a travel destination and so I decided to travel there and spend a month exploring the country from the hyper-modern capital city of Baku to the peculiar exclave republic of Nakhchivan. The journey begins at a site where they discovered several prehistoric rock carvings not too far from Baku.

The history of Azerbaijan stretched back to prehistoric times which is evidenced by the rock carvings in Gobustan and that's where our journey begins in the video. From the empty vastness of the land to humans existing throughout prehistoric times, to the discovery of fire that sprawled up all kinds of civilization, and then there was oil and that where the intro ends and our journey in modern-day Azerbaijan begins.

The video will take you through some of the most incredible sights in the hyper-modern city of Baku before making our way out into the mountains in the Azerbaijani Caucasus.

For this video, I wanted to show you the crazy development that came after the discovery of oil in the country, and you will notice many reference to the fact throughout the video such as the footages of the oil pumps and the excessive use of moving car footages after the intro. The journey picks up from there and you will see several footages of all the beautiful landscapes, architectures, and the people I met during the trip, all fastly cut in a way that should help you imagine what Azerbaijan is like.

Again, I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do making them. Enjoy!

What Keeps Me Coming Back

A film by Alex Strohl & Tucker MacDonald

Ever since Alex visited Slovenia in 2015, he's wanted to return and photograph the mountains in Winter. We set out on a ski touring trip to capture photographs, and explore the unique mountain culture in Slovenia.

VARANASI - A BEAUTIFUL DREAM

Varanasi is an epitome of spiritual grandeur which retains the legacy of a perfect blend of myth, legend and religion. “Older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together” are the words by Mark Twain that rightly describes it all.

But again - words, photographs, videos and more can only do so much justice - to get the true essence of Varanasi, one needs to walk those streets, absorb the vibes, get immersed in the hustle bustle - the true spirit of this age old holy land can only be experienced in person.

Having said that, this video here is a humble tribute to the spiritual and philosophical shades of Banaras, and there couldn't be better words to fill in - than that of Osho.

Transcript :

"You are living in a tremendously beautiful dream. You have to be awake about it, then only a gratefulness arises. I call that gratefulness true religion.

All that you need is a deep gratitude towards existence. He need not believe in god, he need not believe in heaven and hell. Just a simple phenomenon, a deep felt gratitude that this existence would have been missing something without you. That this vast existence needed you, no one else. And your place, was empty before you, will be empty after you"

FULL MOON - Night Skiing Without Artificial Light

Night skiing without artificial light: Closing lift stations and the setting sun mark the end of the action for most skiers. Not for Max Kroneck and Jochen Mesle. While ski towns fall asleep they head into the mountains and see them awaking in a new light. The snow starts glistening again. It ́s just the sound of their skis turning in fresh snow that breaks the silence of the full moon night.

"Some of you might have been on a full moon ski tour before. It ́s a really special vibe which is hard to describe when you haven ́t experienced it by yourself. With this movie we wanted to capture that feeling of being out there skiing in a clear full moon night. There is not much that distracts you from the pure beauty of the mountains." - Jochen Mesle

Of course backcountry skiing at night is a challenge, but to shoot it without any artificial light at all was a different story. The team spent nine intense nights shooting and ski touring in the Austrian alps in winter 2019 to create this film.

Tree-Poaching Is On the Rise

A small group of people goes into the woods with a chain saw. That's how it begins. It ends with the death of a tree—felled, illegally, by poachers.

The United States Forest Service estimates that as many as one in 10 trees cut in the national forests is poached. In a new animated video, The Atlantic contributing writer Lyndsie Bourgon reveals the surprising reason tree-poaching is on the rise.

MUMBAI - IN A MINUTE

PLEASE USE YOUR HEADPHONES

Hustle bustle of one of the busiest city in the world is impossible to capture in frames, no matter how hard one tries. And it's especially impossible when it's beaten down to a minute.

My actual plan was to film Mumbai for 4 days, spread across every nook and corner of the city. Idea was to capture all things Mumbai - from its people to the soulful streets - from all the religions it brews and the cathedrals of workship to the iconic touristy places - from its slums to the skyscrapers - but as luck would have it, my shoot was cut down by 2 days as I had to rush to Dubai due to some emergency work.

In those two days when I shot, I managed to visit Dhobi Ghat, Dharavi, Asalpha, Koliwada, Mohd Ali Road, Chor Bazar, Marine Drive, Colaba, Worli. But given how hard it is to commute in Mumbai, half of those two days were spent stuck in traffic jams. Nevertheless, did get some intersting footage and lot of learning.

One other learning has been the art of transitions. Like photography that I do, I wanted the transitions in my videos to be - straight out of the camera. It feels more real and organic and the thought process of getting them right when you shoot, makes the whole gymnastics of shooting these videos even more fun. Even most of the sound effects you hear in the video are shot in camera using the Saramonic Mic. It's kind of satisfying when most of these additional content are cooked in house. Guess I need to learn how to compose music now

TALE OF TWO STATES - NAGALAND SIKKIM

 Please Use Headphones ⁣

The wild wild east of India is truly phenomenal in terms of culture and landscapes and yet probably the least explored. I for one, have been focusing heavily on exploring North East India for about 2 years now and each visit only surprises me more on how diverse and rich India truly is.⁣

This particular video was shot during my 15 day excursion across Nagaland and Sikkim. Focus in Nagaland was the very colorful Hornbill Festival and in Sikkim, it was a freerun with no fixed plans - to every nook and corner of the state. And ofcourse Kachanjunga - the 3rd highest mountain on earth was at top of my priority. ⁣

I heavily relied on my new toy - DJI Mavic Mini to gather footage. Each day I would exhaust all the batteries (twice) trying to gather all I can when in air. I wish I could fly at the majestic Himalayan ranges of Sikkim but given its the border state with heavy military presence, it was best not to and I obliged.⁣

Sit back, relax and enjoy the flight :) ⁣

About DJI Mavic Mini :⁣

I'm quite impressed with the performance of Mavic Mini. 2.7k footage conformed to 1080p time-line offers brilliant sharpness and clarity to the video and also makes sure my laptop doesn't catch fire with exhaustion. Flights are very stable and connectivity never fails. Though it's tiny and only weights 249gms, its surprisingly good in handling moderate winds. 30 mins flight time on each battery is a winner. DJI knows their game and they sure didn't compromise on Mini. Only downside though is lack of manual controls on video, at times its way too hard to cut the overexposure despite all the exposure compensation. I keenly look forward to the next release from DJI as I know the possibilities and look forward to upgrade to the best they have to offer.⁣
