LATCHED
Newly-single mom Alana (Alana Elmer) and her 14-month-old son Bowen (Bowen Harding) are alone in the off-season on an island cottage, with only a strange old neighbour (Peter Higginson) for company.
A choreographer looking to get back into the dance world, Alana uses her time of solitude to practice her moves and prepare for a new adventure involving an experimental dance company. Then on a walk in the woods with Bowen, they discover the decomposing remains of what is dubiously identified as a bat. It is not a bat.

Rambling: Charlie Fox - NOWNESS
London-based writer Charlie Fox, author of the hallucinatory and darkly comedic grimoire of modern monstrosity This Young Monster, took to his home city's iconic Nunhead cemetery with filmmaker Joseph Delaney in tow, for this Halloween-inspired episode of our returning literary series, Rambling.
Fox's book relocates monstrosity beyond the cul-de-sac of primal fear, instead placing it within the minds, and hands, of outsider artists who have found beauty within the dark and the disturbing. Celebrating the likes of Stranger Things, David Lynch, and Leigh Bowery, Fox paints portraits that veer between the fictional and the factual, digging into the creative minds of artistic vagrants who "rebel against a reality that's too cruel or boring for them to inhabit."
Nunhead cemetery, originally consecrated in 1840, is the resting place of many of London's Victorian notables, and features a host of elaborate tombs and mausoleums that best represent the 19th century's grandiloquent approach to death—where Gothic arches and monumental slabs of stone spread out across the lichen-smeared grounds.

(Lundhags) A Nordic Skater
A Nordic Skater is a very first film about this little known sport. It features Per Sollerman, a photographer who has been skating on frozen lakes and fjords for the past 10 years. During 6 captivating minutes, the viewer is transported to the region of Oslo to have a peek at a story of a man who uses every sense he has to travel on thin ice. Per tells the story of how the little known sport of nordic skating came to play a big part in his life. “It is rooted deep in our bones that we need to be out in the nature,” he says.
Directed, shot and edited by Paulius Neverbickas.
Music by Luca Nioi.
Big thanks to Lundhags for believing in this project!

My original plan this past summer was to collect as much footage as normal, but to not put out a "Monsoon V" until 2019 when I had two years worth of crazy haboobs and lightning to make it truly spectacular. But the monsoon had different plans and put on a pretty dang good show in 2018, starting off with a decent dust storm on July 5th, then the best haboob chase I've ever had on July 9th, an epic green hail core on July 11th and finally another fantastic dust storm day on August 2nd.
Sprinkled in there...more dust storm, some at night, spectacular lightning, and tons of microbursts and stormy clouds, plus a few rotating supercells to put some icing on the cake. It was one of the best monsoon seasons I've chased, so I couldn't help but get to work on Monsoon V a few weeks ago.
I love doing these films so much. So much hard work for months on end goes into capturing them. Almost 15,000 miles this summer across Arizona. 85,000+ frames with plenty more deleted. A total of 32 days out there chasing over three months. Sleep deprivation, tons of gas money, crappy food and yes, sometimes missing storms I wish I had been on.
But the highs were amazing. Chasing with my kiddos...sharing the July 9th haboob bonanza with Lyla and Eli...or an all-night chase with my youngest, Asher. They were so awesome to have along. Two workshops with five fantastic people. Both were so fun and the storms we saw were just wonderful. I feel so blessed to teach people and show the monsoon off to those who have never seen it before.
Big, huge thanks to my buddy Jay Worsley for helping mix the songs on this film to extend them a bit and even blend two songs together. You're a life-saver my friend and your skills are unmatched!
As always is the case...this year, including tornado season, I chased the most I ever have. Which means more time away from home. And Jina...my incredible wife...she's so supportive of my passion and this business. Taking care of the kids and running everything at home during those months...I am forever amazed at how she always has my back, even during the times when it's too hard and she'd rather not. I can't thank her enough for allowing me to chase my dreams.
I do want to thank all of you watching this...over the years, so many people have seen the films, left kind words, purchased DVDs, prints and even books. I don't know how many people asked me this year about when Monsoon V was coming out, and I have to say...it was extremely motivating. So thank you for the support and kind words of encouragement and excitement about these storm movies...I can honestly say you are a huge reason why I keep making them!

ΔΙΝΗ (VORTEX) - PRINS OBI & THE DREAM WARRIORS
Just like a vortex / you keep pulling me closer.
A peephole into next-door head trips, a casual visual visit to her collective portrait. Driven by the mesmerizing Prince Obi & The Dream Warriors melody that revisits 60s nostalgia in a tone set by today's self-sarcasm, Vasilis Katsoupis created an ode to the neu female; in a round frame, just like a vortex pulling you closer, according to the Greek lyrics. What's said to be the archetypical cinematography format - the round framing - serves as the baseline on which mixed video media (shot on Ursa mini Pro, High8 video and Digital Harinezumi) interwine to form a bizzare colorful tune of gazes, faces, tenacity and affection. Symbols, identities and roles swirl together away into an off-key reality; colors and textures dress the portrait inside out, under the whimsical art direction of Toronto-based Anastasia Patellis; the gloomy insides meet the bright Athenian skies, as captured by the DoP, Giorgos Kokkalis.
And in the middle of it all, she stands right there, pulling you in the vortex.

Tokyo Seamless - Directors Cut - Zippy Edit
A Rob Whitworth Flow Motion, shot on the mirrorless Nikon Z 7.
Pretty amazing project this. Something like the mothership calling having used Nikons my whole life.
I got to visit Nikon HQ and test out the Z7 way back in March 2018. Meeting some of the incredibly dedicated people that make these cameras was pretty special. Amazing to think these huge camera companies boil down to a few key individuals… geniuses.
The video was shot over two weeks in early July using a prototype model. As with all of my videos a great deal of hard work was carried out by a number of people. So big thanks to everyone involved.
Getting permission to film a guy in a bunny costume in the middle of Tokyo Station was interesting.

Seijaku - A day above the Earth (4K)
English below.
The Japanese speak of 静寂 (Seijaku) as serenity in the midst of activity. Not escaping from the world to some mountaintop, but finding the real meaning, fulfillment, energy and wisdom in the midst of everyday hustle and bustle.
Shot with a Mavic Pro across 10 countries and 3 continents over a year of travel, we had the opportunity to be regularly amazed by the many landscapes crossed, whatever the time of the day. This video is a selection of my favorite shots. This is one day above the Earth.
Edited and color graded with Premiere Pro and After Effects CC 2018, shots cleaned with Neat Video.

I was drawn to the enticing slowness of the song, and it made me think of the film Dreams by Akira Kurosawa, Cab Calloway's dancing, and some of the moods in Marcel Dzama's drawings. I decided on featuring birds as an innocent threat from the beginning, paired with a character who seems suspicious of them and unsure about their desires. I liked that the human to bird interface could become a source of happiness for no reason.

Black Sheep
Everything changed for Cornelius Walker on 27 November 2000 when Damilola Taylor was killed. Damilola was 11, the same age as Cornelius. He lived five minutes away. He had the same skin colour. Cornelius’s mother, scared for her son’s safety, moved their family out of London. Cornelius suddenly found himself living on a white estate run by racists. But rather than fight them, Cornelius decided to become more like the people who hated him. They became his family and kept him safe. And in return, Cornelius became submerged in a culture of violence and hatred. But as the violence and racism against other black people continued, Cornelius struggled to marry his real identity with the one he had acquired.

Weltschmerz - NOWNESS
The latest film from Danish director Jesper Dalgaard is an intimate, wry, and ultimately life-affirming tale of role-play and relationships set during the rehearsals for a play. Its director, a blind woman who has recently experienced the end of a relationship, leads her small cast through an exploratory search for meaning, which includes a sequence of acting exercises, costume role-plays, and highly ornate dioramas which increasingly test the limits of reality itself. Dalgaard's approach to the material is that of an author and an anthropologist; mixing fiction with hybrid documentary direction, wherein the film was allowed to evolve organically, dynamically. Talking about the film's unusual approach, Dalgaard explained that he was discovering the meaning and structure of it as they went along—learning as much from the cast as from his own notes and ideas.
The literal concept of weltschmerz takes its name from German author Jean Paul's idea of 'world weariness,' denoting a feeling experienced by someone who believes that physical reality can never satisfy the demands of the mind. For the play's cast and director, each of whom experience some form of disability or learning difficulty, this concept acquires a new meaning—of whether people can escape the perceived 'limitations' of their differences, while also empathising with the experiences of one who is separated from themselves.

Subconscious Self Sabotage - 1000 Petal Lotus ft. Angus Tarnawsky
Subconscious Self Sabotage is a music video that explores two entities, one entrapped and the other being pursued, as they discover a common link through time and space.
It is the first project in a series of collaborations with musician Zane Coppard's solo project: 1000 Petal Lotus.
1000 Petal Lotus leans heavily on multi-artist collaborations as well as experimentation through sound. The project is dedicated to creating synergy while sourcing unlikely samples, melodies and rhythms. Keeping perspective and potential the core values of the music, the outcome is something unpredictable that cannot be limited to any one genre.
Director - Jordan Findlay
Director of Photography - Jeremy Cox
Featuring - Christian Boakye-Agyeman and Ulysses Coppard
