Writer/Director Statement: "I was intrigued by a historical incident recounted in Chris Matthews' book 'Kennedy and Nixon: The Rivalry That Shaped Postwar America' in a chapter called 'Strangers On A Train.' In April of 1947, just three months after being sworn in as freshman congressmen, future presidents John F. Kennedy, age 29, and Richard M. Nixon, age 34, took a trip together to McKeesport, Pennsylvania, where they debated an upcoming labor bill before a civic group of 150 people. Afterward, the two friends went to a diner for hamburgers and then shared a sleeping compartment on the Capitol Limited overnight train back to Washington. They drew straws for the lower bunk, which Nixon won. I thought that fascinating true event would make a exciting jumping-off point for a Twilight Zone-ish story about two American icons. Our short film, SPLIT TICKET, is the result." – Alfred Thomas Catalfo • catalfo.com
