Destroying By Example - Erik Ellington
In the mid nineties, skateboarding exploded, the decompression of a bored generation, propelling each of its best practitioners to the rank icon, rock star. Alcohol, drugs, partying and world tours were the norm. Erik Ellington was one of them, one of the best, the embodiment of relentless charisma & style.
Two decades on and at 38 years of age, Erik is a veteran. A life fighting inner demons has lead to a new chapter, one of sobriety, abstinence and responsibility.
Director Sebastien Zanella presents Destroying by Example, a thoughtful portrait on one of the most intriguing personalities skateboarding has produced. In an unprecedented interview Ellington shares his plight, his inspiration and what led him to lead such a positive change in lifestyle.

AROUND U
"Around U" is a film about crossing the world, filmed in 9 countries and covering 75,000 km over 6 months. Searching for encounters and experiences and further, for that one thing that connects us all, namely the certainty of finding beauty and peace anywhere in the world.
Our humanity is what connects us. Capturing the spirit of people and places one finds while traveling is what drives me and my work.
In my experience, the majority of us are united by the clear desire for freedom and peace. There is no need for more borders, but for the lowering of them.
Thanks to all the people who gave me a smile and a warm feeling!

Simply Bagan
Bagan is a place like no other in the world. I've been here twice and both times, I was captivated by it and surprised by all the details I missed the last time. Over 2,200 abandoned pagodas spread out over the orange-yellowish landscape that is the plain of Bagan. Biking is my preferred mode of transportation which allowed me access to some very remote temples with ease. Not to mention, this place is probably one of the most beautiful place in the world to watch a sunrise. See in the video for yourself. :)
In this particular video, I experimented on many new techniques I learned over the past few days from motion tracking to speed ramping and sound design. Possibly the longest I've spent doing a video to date. I hope I did not overuse the speed ramping technique since I think it fits in well with the flow of the story, the building emotion and the music.
Hope you enjoy the video! Try watching it with a good pair of headphones. :)

In Japan - 2015
This film is a collection of audiovisual moments and memories of a 3-week railway journey through Japan in 2015. We were whizzing through the country with the Shinkansen visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Kyoto as well as lots of wonderful little places along the way, meeting the most friendly people and experiencing a culture that somehow balances its rich tradition with a very futuristic present.

H POSITIVE
If you had a prolonged terminal illness and money was no object, would you manipulate euthanasia so that you could die on your own terms?
This story examines how the protagonist Mark uses his wealth to help create a euthanasia roller coaster. A roller coaster so powerful, it causes cerebral hypoxia, thus suffocating your brain ensuring a euphoric death.

Turum FREE FONT
Turum FREE FONT Presented in two font faces, Turum was never meant to blow critic's minds or anything, but it was forged with great passion and care for each and every single detail in every element to become finished product. It's basic shape is stretched up body with a bit rounded corners and sharp edges to gain it more contrast. Turum should be used as complementary element in font-based compositions, for example in futuristic-themed environments. But it could also work well in credits section in movie posters or in disclaimer signs. Traditionally Turum is free for commercial and personal use.

Verizon Animations
Wieden + Kennedy approached Assembly to bring the Verizon 'City' to life online.
We created 5 scenarios that reflected an aspect of Verizon's offerings to its customers. These fun vignettes of Verizon's capabilities take a playful look at what are in fact very complex issues.
Utilizing a physical style of animation that relies on simulations and real world physics, we created a tactile world that encourages interaction.

Hybrid Forms: New Growth
This is a variation of Hybrid Forms, using the same simulation data as in my previous video (vimeo.com/134814340) but showing regions of active cell growth instead of the internal structures. As cells are born they are highlighted in blue, which gradually fades as each cell ages. Complex patterns emerge in waves across the surface, with adjacent cells tending to accumulate enough food to split at approximately the same time so tending to be roughly synchronized in the times when new cells are born.
I would like to thank Max Cooper for permission to use 'Teotihuacan Part 2' for the accompanying music.

Charles X - Can You Do it
Music video directed for the charismatic LA-born musician Charles X for his eagerly anticipated new single entitled Can You Do It in mixed 3D/2D animation produced by Eddy and animated at Brunch Studio.
This collaboration is intended to act as a social commentary which aims to cast light on perceived societal expectations and social norms by integrating elements and people from different walks of life.
I sought to merge the typically highbrow sport of horse racing with the commonly misrepresented “mean streets” of Pacoima, the proud birthplace of Charles X, to challenge any stereotypes or preconceptions of race and social class which may exist in modern day society.
I wanted to communicate Charles’ intended message via the lens of an artificial world in my own style of animation.
"Can You Do It" is now available on Charles X's new album, "Sounds of the Yesteryear":

In Japan - 2015
This film is a collection of audiovisual moments and memories of a 3-week railway journey through Japan in 2015. We were whizzing through the country with the Shinkansen visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Kyoto as well as lots of wonderful little places along the way, meeting the most friendly people and experiencing a culture that somehow balances its rich tradition with a very futuristic present.

Herbie and Nathan Fletcher: Peninsula South
Nixon brings together larger-than-life surf legends Herbie and Nathan Fletcher for a road trip down memory lane in a new short film entitled Peninsula South, where the father and son team head down to Baja and revisit some old haunts from previous adventures. Director Riley Blakeway captures Herbie’s pioneering spirit and the close-knit relationship he has built with his son Nathan as they set out on an expedition they’ve not made together in over twenty years, reignites both their love for Baja and their deep appreciation for one another. By the late 60s, Herbie had already begun exploring Baja in search of un-crowded lineups and adventure. As his life moved forward, he built a family who share his love of travel, and who have joined him countless times to explore the fickle southern peninsula. On this latest mission, Nathan discusses his father’s contagious, childlike enthusiasm for surfing and life, and shares how he hopes to pass those ideals down to the next Fletcher generation.

Thorsten Brinkmann: The Great Cape Rinderhorn
This short documentary follows German artist Thorsten Brinkmann as he creates his site-specific installation, The Great Cape Rinderhorn, at Rice University Art Gallery. Working primarily from objects found in Houston, Brinkmann turns Rice Gallery into a place where the familiar is made strange as castaway goods are reimagined through Brinkmann’s idiosyncratic sensibility that combines assemblage sculptures with his self-portrait and still life photography. On view at Rice Gallery February 4 - May 15, 2016. Commissioned by RiceGallery.org. Original score by Mark Walley. Learn more about the artist at ThorstenBrinkmann.com.

Hadrian / Bronze Casting Using The Lost-Wax Technique
A short animation made for the "Hadrian" Exhibition in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, December 2015.
The film shows the bronze casting process in an artistic yet simple method, a combination of stop motion and 2D animation.
The preparation process included a research and a constant dialogue with the curator and the restoration department of the museum as well as a visit in a bronze casting workshop. The head used in the film was a plaster replica of the original Hadrian's bronze statue found in Tel-Shalem, Israel, 117-138 CE.

Iceland - The Land Of Fire And Ice
On October 16th I went with some friends on a trip to Iceland for 8 days, to chase the northern lights.
Now you may read about Iceland on forums, see some photos on the net. But none of it will have any meaning until you actually visit and see it for yourself. There is something extraordinary about that country, the views! the black sand beaches, the frozen lava, the waterfalls, the geysers, the glaciers, the volcanoes, the dancing Auroras at night!
It's like the whole island is alive breathing, the rivers are its veins and the volcanoes are the valves of its heart.

The Magic of Manning's Pit
The fields known as Manning’s Pit in Pilton, Barnstaple have been walked and played on by local people for at least a thousand years. They're a little piece of the beautiful North Devon countryside within an easy stroll of town, one of the many reasons why they are much loved by local residents. Memories run deep here and many tell of how their grandparents and even great grandparents treasured these fields. Today Manning's Pit is a safe place to play for a new generation of Pilton's children.
But nameless land speculators have now bought the fields and are pressing ahead with plans to turn Manning's Pit into a housing estate. This film tells the stories of the local people young and old who treasure the magic of Manning's Pit. Revealing a a deep and abiding love for a very special piece of land that they are determined not to loose.
