IRAN

Short video about my trip to Iran in autumn 2014.

I can honestly say I never thought about traveling to Iran and I am still not sure what made me go there other than to simply experience firsthand one of the most mislead countries in the world. What I found was an incredibly hospitable and friendly people, a land full of spectacular landscapes, a fascinating culture and history and despite a extremely difficult political situation the iranians has nothing to do with the image the media show us. This short video represents only a fraction of what I saw and experienced but being one of the most stimulating and enriching journeys of my life let me invite you to watch it and maybe change the image you may have of this beautiful country.

Iceland Adventure

I traveled to Iceland in May of 2015 with two of my friends, we spent 10 days driving around the whole island. We drove more than 4000km's and spent over 56 hours in the car. I have never traveled to a more exciting and beautiful country, there is so much to see and do. Videos and pictures don't do it justice. Looking around it doesn't feel real, this video is the closest I can get to showing the beauty of this country. If you ever get the chance to visit, please do. It's unbelievable.

Some of which were shot on my roadtrip stormchasing.

MoonAura

'Everyone can see it you know
Just look up to the sky
And watch it's precious glow
Softly pass by'
It may not be as majestic as those Icelandic Auroras but I was really touched by it's beauty as I drove home a few nights ago, captured in South London from my GH4. These fast moving dark clouds are the remenants of storm Jonas that came from America. As gaps appeared the moon lit up the weaker clouds like white smoke from a fire or the black and white version of the aurora falling to Earth as I saw in Iceland. vimeo.com/141602761 'Finding Aurora'

The video and time-lapse shots taken here were taken over the course of 6 years in the beautiful Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. Confidential Awards Show package

While it is unfortunate that this project was never been shown in its intended form, presenting it as a fictious awards show package is still a joy. This was an incredibly ambitous task on a tight deadline which myself and Steve Panicara managed to deliver on time and a project we are both very proud of. I had the great honor of speaking on behalf of Maxon and Capacity at the 2015 NAB show where I presented both the concept/production side of the project as well as going into the look developement with Octane and how we have built our studios pipeline around the renderer. The presentations can be viewed at brett-morris.com

THE ROAD TO WESTHOEKE - DE WEI NEI DE WESTHOEKE TA

Frisian magazine demoanne.nl asked five Frisian poets to write an ode to the potato for an exchange project with Valetta 2018 in the run-up to Leeuwarden Cultural Capital 2018. The project is called Poetic Potatoes. Five filmmakers took these poems as an inspiration to make five remarkable films. The premiere of the film by Richard van der Laan, with a recital by poet Albertina Soepboer was held on November 5 2015.
The poem has been translated in English using subtitles. The film is available in 4K DCI format.

Premiered on the Media Art Festival 2015 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands mediaartfriesland.nl

Production : Veasonic
Screenplay / Camera / Edit : Richard van der Laan
Poem : Albertina Soepboer
Poem reading : Siem de Vlas
Cast : Jan de Vlas, Siem de Vlas
Sound Design : Maarten Boogerman
Color Correction : Michiel Boogerman

Camera : Panasonic GH4 (4K) (incl. Metabones MFT/Nikon Speedbooster) (Cine-D -4 -3 -5 0 0)
Lens : Nikkor AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED and Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f2.8 G ED plus Mattebox with ND filters
Tripod : Sachtler FSB-4 75 CF

BIRTH OF A LIFE

Mother nature is just amazing and the most beautiful moment is creation of life.
Got a chance to record this lovely moment when a baby pigeon came out of the egg.

Have used slow motions to stretch the moment so that we can live it more.

Our World is a Beautiful Place

I have taken quite a long hiatus from creating timelapse films. My last full video was released over a year ago. Recently I have gained some inspiration to start working on new films both in timelapse and aerial. This little teaser video includes some of my favorite shots from 2014 and 2015. Some of which were shot on my roadtrip stormchasing.

Locations in order:
Santa Barbara, California
Great Plains, Oklahoma
Amarillo, Texas
Death Valley, California
Great Plains, Eastern Colorado
Yosemite National Park, California
Santa Ynez, California
Monument Valley, Arizona Utah
Mono Lake, California
San Diego, California
Great Plains, Eastern Colorado
Alabama Hills, California

I am super excited to be back at it again and I hope you all enjoy this quick timelapse short.
