This video was shot entirely on Super 8 film. All effects were created practically in camera.
The idea behind this video was heavily inspired by Ajay Malghan's film destruction work. He, and several other still photographers, push the limits as to what a 35mm still film camera can capture. From their experimentation with film damagers this video was born. We tried using the same approach as Ajay and some of the others by damaging the Super 8 film after it was shot and before it was developed. We soaked it in bleach, lemon juice, and much more. Unfortunately with motion film it's not as simple as still film. The film soon became too brittle and wound up tearing during the development process. Most of the film we shot wound up completely ruined. The images that survived created a symphony of melancholy that fit perfectly with the song.
