Strained Lebanon

Lebanon is a beautiful country in Asia with a rich history, cultural identity and ethnic diversity.
Following the end of the twenty-nine years of Syrian occupation of Lebanon in 2005, many Syrians have been immigrating to Lebanon in search of work and a better life. However, as a result of the civil war in Syria between the government and rebel groups. More than 1,5 million refugees have been entering Lebanon,
The influx of Syrians into Lebanon has resulted in economic, political, social and religious tensions in Lebanon. This causes a strained relationship. It's like a “dormant volcano”.

My name is Yuribert Capetillo Hardy, a filmmaker born in Habana, Cuba, living in Amsterdam. From my humble personal view: Beirut anno 2018 is an amazing, beautiful city. Many luxurious hotels, shops, restaurants (definitely the best food I’ve ever had) and a great nightlife. The local people are very friendly and made me feel at ease from the very first moment.
Growing up in the streets of Habana and now living in Europe, I didn’t had a lot of information about the middle east (except from what the mainstream media want you to see & read). This has been the biggest motivation for me to go to Beirut and find out about it myself. I found a country that’s driven by “Peaceful coexistence” a term that I’ve heard in Lebanon for the first time, and it fascinates me ever since.

Technics:
For this specific project I've used geometrical and symmetrical shapes for switches, zoom-in and out and other inconvertional camera movements to join random shots and locations to make them all connect and “coexist” with each-other. Like I wish everyday life would be, that everything is connected and we all can coexist in peace.
